Can't wait to try this sealant out. Let us know if you'd like any special prep as blkZ28Conv mentioned to remove some variation from the results.

Great minds think a like. YES, I was thinking about this last night and again this morning. I will create instructions for application and a standardized reporting form.

As I said, your kit will include applicator, towels and sealant. That way I can be sure everyone reports the same experience with application.

DB,

The car I have in mind for this test is that black M3 with the rock-hard paint that we've talked about. I got it looking pretty good, but there are still some minor swirls that I'd like to try SBP on. Will #49 need to be applied to bare paint, or can I use it over SBP when the time comes?

Excellent!

Keep us posted! I look forward to hearing more about it.

Good question, and I will be able to tell you more later. I suspect it will go over SBP just fine, but for durability testing I think I'm going to ask everyone to do a Dawn wash before applying RDF49.

I would think that a polished surface would be a better test bed...that way surface is clean of any product prior to testing..I do not think dawn will wash off some good sealants..so a squeaky clean surface would be the ideal test bed...make it a standard polish like meg's DACP...or what ever is readily available to testers...

this way you get results from a standard test..the test variables will be from temperate zones..environment...weather...that way every one is equal in products applied..but not in locations...

as noted on here before..products act different for people in different locations due to heat..sun...rain...dust..what ever...

This is very exciting! It looks very promising.

If you need some Australian testing in round 2....

If there's enough sealant in the sample to cover two cars, I could try #49 both with and without SBP, if you're interested to see how it holds up over a polish as well as a clean surface. The wife of the M3 owner has a silver Legacy that I care for, too . . . it cleans up pretty well, and wouldn't need the filling properties of SBP.

No problem either way, though . . . if you want me to stick to a test on bare paint, I'll use #49 only on the Legacy, and use a different sealant on the M3 after SBP.

DavidB will instruct us on prep, but I am sure the mentioned Dawn wash would be after washing (non-protectant containing shampoo), claying(slickness and smoothness) and polishing (natural gloss/depth/hue and smoothness).

The mentioned Dawn wash is intended to remove any polishing oils/fillers if such a product is used to prep surface.

ok..that is understandable to dawn wash after the prep...I may have read into it wrong thinking it was just a dawn wash to remove wax and sealants...but using to remove residual polish and clay lube remnants that would be fine ...

I did my first test on the Mule, which has a much better color for testing sealants and waxes (Porsche Guards Red) than my Cayenne.

Before the wash!

The Mule has been sitting in the salt air for a while, so it was good and dirty. I washed it with a triple-strength batch of Dawn to remove all previous polish, sealant and wax products. I dryed thoroughly and left it out in the sun to get warm (okay... HOT!).

I applied a thick coating of RDF49 with half the Mule in the sun and the other half in the shade. I used a microfiber applicator to apply the product. I think foam is going to be better. It applies nicely, but it would take some work to put it on thin. It likes to go on thick.

I allowed it to dry (haze) about 5 minutes, then wiped it of with a generic 70/30 microfiber buffing towel.

After the First Application

First notes:

1. This product buffs off very easy, even when applied in the sun and applied thick.
2. It dries/hazes pretty fast and did not smear when wiping off. It wipes off clean.
3. The color on the Mule has never looked darker, not even with P21S.
4. I have never felt anything as slick. I sprayed Z-8 (which I regarded as the slickest stuff around) on a small area and it reduced the slickness.

Application notes:

1. Be sure the surface is dry before you apply RDF49. This stuff does not like water and will not mix.
2. Slight dusting when buffing off in the sun, but no static buld-up.

I have some personal preference thoughts on the product, but I'm going to hold those comments until others have tried it. I don't want to bias the testing of others.

Tomorrow I have a black SUV that I get to use for testing. More before/after picks when that job is done. I will be applying RDF49 by machine.

Secondary Application Notes:

I applied a second coat to a small area using a Handi-Grip Applicator. It goes on much thinner, smoother and very easy with this applicator. I'm going to make the Handi-Grip the standard applicator for testing this product.
