To wax or not to wax?

Well, I have been reading a lot here, but just a small curiosity/question...
Is it better to apply more coats of PGP or a single coat + a wax like P21S?
You know, for the perfect look....

Of course you may ask: why don't you try yourself?

Well again, I have to order Ulrtima products etc and I'd like to make a single order from Italy!

Thanks....

Re: To wax or not to wax?

I ordered the ultima sample kit from autopia which provides the paint prep plus, paint guard plus, and the quick detailer.

If you don't have any detailing clay locally, get some of that too.

Then, wash, clay, apply paint prep plus, apply paint guard plus....

Then instead of waxing over the paint guard plus...wait a day or 2 then apply another coat of pgp. Another option is to just wait for the next weekly washing of the car and apply another coat of pgp then. I am very happy with the ease of application and the look of the ultima products on the truck. This weekend the truck gets another layer.

Regards

Randy

Re: To wax or not to wax?

I'm almost finished with my first bottle and have a second in hand. I'm still happily using PGP and enjoying the nice durability that comes with a *very* easy to use product.

Re: To wax or not to wax?

Two coats of Ultima is for sure the way to go. P21S is great for a topper on things like Klasse but it is not known for durability or longevity. With Ultima, the P21S is simply not needed, it looks great on it's own and will last longer than P21S.

Re: To wax or not to wax?

wow i gotta tell ya i was really torn on whether to apply a carnububa on top of the ugp. i even applied another coat of the ugp and waited another day and really it looks great, but because i'm anal and always looking for better, or what i think is better, i applied a coat of s100 carnuba. well in my eyes it just did something to it, i can 't explain it, it just gave it something more, call it depth, reflectivity, whatever, i just know that in my eyes i need the look of a carnuba, that's not to say that ugp is bad, quite the contrary, it's an excellent product, it's ease of use, it's final result, are all excellent, but like all sealants, in my estimation, they're just to sterile for me, now this is just my opinion, i likr the durability of a sealant and the look of a carnuba, it's a personal thing i guess. i like knowing that there'sw a sealant protecting the paint and a wax giving me the look i'm after.

Agree! I usually do 3 coats of UPGP and though it looks amazing on its own, I found that topping it with one coat of either Z8, P21s100% or Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax does add more depth and warmth.

Re: To wax or not to wax?

I have never understood the whole top a sealant with a wax perspective. I am a one or the other kinda guy. If you like the sealant look, keep it. If you like the wax look, keep it.

I think a finish will look its best with one LSP.

Geeez, i thought I was alone on this one......
If your going to top it, top it with another coat of synthetic. Ive always felt topping with a Nuba sort of "softened" the crispness of the synthetic.
Truthfully, i rarely use a Nuba anymore........

I think topping the sealant just gives you another option in terms of looks. IMO, the results are a bit different from using only a sealant or wax. Just a matter of personal taste. Sometimes I leave the UPGP alone, sometimes I like only the nuba, and sometimes I top the sealant with a nuba or with Z8. Other times, I like to give it a final wipe down with fK 425.

Trying it yourself and experimenting with different products and combination is the only way you will know if it works for you. Try 3 coats of UPGP 12 hours apart by itself. Enjoy the look and let it go like that for a few days or weeks until you are used to that look, then try the nuba on top later and see how you like it.
