Newbie--but read all the stuff on Ultima and decided to try it. Never have tried a WOWA wax but the ideal appeals to the lazier aspect of my personality! Bought the sampler kit and the Elastrofoam. I have the dark red 2004 double cab Tundra with a tonneau cover--so lots to do. And it's been long time, too long, since I polished and waxed it. Was using Meguiars.
Started about 10 a.m. with the washing. Lots of bugs--live in NW FL. I like the Elastrofoam but didn't use it all over the truck, focusing on the nose and hood where most of the problems were. That was a mistake as I was surprised the find the tail gate, which stays up for the cover 99% of the time to really be in need of this stuff. That was after I finished waxing, so too late for me to go back now. The nose has "damage" from bugs and rocks that is beyond the Paint Prep Plus (PPP) to deal with. Did some rubbing compound on some spots. Let's just say my paint prep skills lack.
Next was the PPP. Used my Porter Cable and the orange pad. This stuff went on well and came off ok with an MF towel. I had read the forum some and noticed people would have trouble getting it off if they didn't buff it in to a fine type film, so I mad sure I worked it, with a setting on 3 to 4. I will say that there were some spots, like hard water spots etc that didn't clean off as well as i would have liked. This is not to knock PPP, but my own skills. I wasn't sure if I needed to use something stronger or just turn up the buffer and work it longer.
It was fun working the Tonneau cover. Little hard to reach and work but I eventually I got it all done. Didn't start waxing until 4:00. Was trying to beat some impending rain. I know--probably shouldn't have tried it on this day but it was my first shot to use the Ultima, so I went for it. Finished waxing in about 25 minutes. Love this stuff! I mean it went on well and seemed to cure nicely. I did take it for a drive to get it to harden faster. Light rain started about 7:30. Did notice that in a couple of places, the rain didn't help the drying. Tundra is too long to fit in my garage.
Overall, very pleased. I am going to use the wash and then put another coat of wax on it, or 2. Thinking that this is a no-brainer. I can wash it, dry it and wax it very quickly! Will make it much easier to keep it clean. Also have 2 other cars to do.
Probably used a little over a 1/3 of ounce of wax. Was careful not to but it on too thick, hope I didn't go too light! But I figure I can take care of it on the next coat. Got to buy more car wash.
Sorry for the long post. Oh, I did put the wax on my black exterier trim, head and tail lights, bumpers, and even on my rims. What the heck. I liked it. Better lighting would have helped see it go on, but you can't always have perfect conditions.
Will have to see about getting the paint prepped better by trying to get more of the spots out. But I wonder if its worth the risk. The truck does have some paint chips in it--just from normal road-wear.
Next I got to clean the interior and the very dirty glass!
