Thanks BlackElantraGT for bringing that question up again. I was beginning to think that no one cared about knowing the answer. I was sort of getting used to being ignored.

I got my new UDM last week. Guess what the manufacturing date is: May 2007. So if there is a bad batch out there, hopefully it is not based upon the MFG date. Anyhow I can't use the UDM to test out until maybe this weekend (weather permitting).

it would be highly unlikely that the MFG date is used for determining warranty status...unless you sell it to someone and they try to file a claim w/out proof of purchase or something.

I never said that the manufacture date had anything to do with the warranty (although it does if it is not registered, they would have no other date to go off of).

However, my prior post was only stating the manufacture date of my new UDM because earlier in the thread we were trying to figure out everyone's "manufacture date" to determine if we were part of a bad batch of UDMs. So essentially I was covering two subjects in one post.

I agree also, however if you have to make a claim on the warranty for a failed unit, does the new unit come with another 1 year warranty, that starts from the date of receipt?

Sure it would--its a new unit and treat it as such!! You would start over from day-1

The initial warranty is the what got you the replacement. This warranty does not re-establish itself after each replacement. The initial purchased warranty will cover all replacements during its lifetime (1 year). After that you are on your own.

One could possibly make the argument the the initial purchased product had inherited defects and should have warranty extensions "IF" the replacement(s) have resolved the defect(s). This is not implied and must be "in writing" stating such extension(s).

I agree. This makes the most sense from a business standpoint.

I would like to believe that it would reset though.

You're probably correct as most warranties work this way, but this is a question better answered by David or Lynn rather than assuming something.

This is the basic strategy I would present to the vendor of the UDM in my pursue and insistence for a warranty extension. In writing of course.

Fortunately, if the UDM was purchased from DavidB/Lynn, from the read I have done here at Autopia, it seems as though they are very pliable and willing about treating their customers in a exemplary manner.
