Cement Mixer noise normal?? Vid inside

Hey there everyone! I just got my new compounds/pads/UDM package in the mail and im so EXCITED! I read the instruction manual and once i plugged it in it started just fine, I took it all the way up to speed 6 and everything still purrs like a kitten. I just have one question during startup it kind of sounds like a cement mixer? It still maintains that sound throughout all the speeds but it is not as audible as speeds increase. Thanks for any opinions! Im located in San Diego CA, is there any place I can go to and exchange this if this is a problem?? Id hate to wait another 2 weeks

oh yea when if ever should speed 6 be used??and with what pad? It seems like it would tear the paint right off! I can definitely feel the power

Sounds like something is loose inside your UDM, mine does not make that sound at all. I would send an e-mail to either Lynn or DavidB and link this thread. They should be able to help you.

Most users use 5 or 6 when compounding/polishing out paint imperfections. If you want to apply wax with a UDM, tone it down to 3-4.

after doing more reading, I guess this sound will go away if there is a load put on it and that the cement mixing noise is due to the oscillation and bearings with no load on them?

There still seems to be a weird rattling sound. That or the sound on You Tube is not that good. When I get home, I will fire mine up to make sure I am not dreaming things but I swear mine does not make that sound.

I plugged mine in and listened to both to make sure and it actually sounds normal to me, especially when spinning free. It will sound much different when you have the pad on the paint.

Should you find you have a problem in the future the replacement process is pretty simple and doesn't take two weeks at all. We just send out a call tag and have UPS pick up the unit and send you a replacement. Depending on the time of day, and your location should not take more than 5 days withing the US and will take less for those who are in the So Cal area.

thank you very much Lynn, I appreciate the speedy service. Ive asked on other forums (s2ki, ag etc.) and ive gotten a good consensus from both the PC and UDM crowd that it does sound exactly like that theres when there is no load on it. thank you everyone for your input

Not sure. I need to look around on the UDM site and see what it says. Being a hobbyist, I doubt it will need any maintenance any time soon so it is not something I am thinking about at the moment. However, if you are using yours on a weekly basis, I would assume about every six months the bearing and seals could use some lubrication. Hopefully some of the pro detailers can offer their advice.

Used it over the weekend and all is perfect!! The noise did go away
