no no no...
Scott is saying that the UDM is comparable to the Cyclo in cutting ability, but both are superior to the PC.

in my short experience with the UDM, i find it fairly close to the Cyclo, but the Cyclo covers more space quicker and still seems to provide more torque, which to me allows for greater correction ability.

the way i see it, this is how i'd rate the 3 in terms of cutting ability:
Cyclo > UDM >> PC

the thing about the UDM is that it retains the great maneuverability of the PC design, which racks up the points with me.

I know. I was trying to flip statements around leading to my question. If UDM cuts at least as well as Cyclo (per Scott) and UDM cuts at least same as PC (until it is proven it cuts better) then Cyclo cuts at least as well as PC. So, per "Scott", Cyclo cuts at least as well as PC.

Also, my experience (FWIW) has been that Cyclo cuts better and faster than PC, maybe because it is easier for me to lean onto it without bogging it down.

Yet, I have seen number of posts here where people say Cyclo has no cutting ability.

So I was trying to ask Scott what he thinks why they say that, could it be my (lack of) experience/knowledge in use of PC, or could it be theirs with Cyclo.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

Zoran, I think most people say that a Cyclo has more cutting power than a PC, while most also say it's no substitute for a rotary. Perhaps that's the confusion.

I don't think I have misinterpreted what they were saying. Statements were that Cyclo has no corrective abilities whatsoever, that it is good just for applying LSPs, and that was so contradicting to my impressions of Cyclo vs PC that I was left utterly confused with such comments.

Well, that's obviously just wrong. I don't think I remember anyone saying that a Cyclo has any less correction capability than a PC. The dispute was over whether it really had any more.

I will try to go back and find them when I have a moment because my reading of those posts was that they are saying it has none. Of course I would scratch my head on that and look at my Cyclo and wonder "What do you mean by none?".

Sheesh, you don't have to go look, I believe you! I'm just saying it's obviously wrong.

I know you believe me, I want to go and reread them to make sure I was not reading them wrong. And I too felt it is obviously wrong but then again I am noob, what do I know, I had impression those people had much more experience with both than I do.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

The Cyclo will correct more and do it easier and faster than a Porter Cable......without question. I have both machines. I'm watching the UDM closely as the problems are corrected. If Scott likes it that's a very strong endorsement in my book. I don't care to deal with the screwy on/off switch or the short cord so I'll wait until those are addressed.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

I just got my UDM.. it does have some nice power for corrections but it vibrates like mad. My hand that was holding on to the handle felt like it was on fire from the vibrations after doing about half a car with it on 6.

Do not use the handle. I do not use handle neither on PC nor on UDM. Handle amplifies vibrations.
