Re: The more I use my UDM...

+1 for the UDM. While I have never used a PC, I have to say that I am extremely pleased with it. My only problem is the switch. I don't mind the length of the chord at all. The bag is nice as well. Great product!!

Re: The more I use my UDM...

Scott, that's not fair! I was just about ready to order a Hitachi before I read this! How is the vibration of the UDM compared to a PC?

I'm thinking I will sell my PC, buy a UDM to play with for a couple months then order the Hitachi. I will use the UDM for finishing work until I get the hang of finishing with a rotary.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

I agree about the UDM. Seems to break down polishes quicker and run more smoothly, so polishing is almost enjoyable.

I have had some issues with the switch, but I can live with it.

I like applying my LSP with one hand. It's a really smooth machine.

Get the Hitachi, trust me.... It can do things the UDM can only dream about... Completely different machines, for different reasons. If you have an rotary and a PC there is no need for anything else.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

I'm not overly impressed with a PC with 6.5 inch pads. A PC or UDM with 5 inch pads probably works fairly well. But a rotary can still do more cutting, escpecially with wool.

Scott, would you say that the UDM is on par with the Cyclo in terms of correcting ability, or is it still too early to tell? Are you still planning on doing a comparison test between the UDM and PC ... and perhaps including the Cyclo too?

It is less, but not that much. One thing I really do like though, is when you use it one handed, the plastic cover over the head of the UDM doesn't rattle and buzz like the PC.

Tom-I'd say the UDM cuts at least as well as the Cyclo. I still plan on doing a comparison between all three machines but last Sunday, I got a flat and my free replacement certificates from Discount Tire don't help me when they are closed on Sundays and that is when I get a flat. Spent 3 hours at Wal-mart getting another, the tire center was mobbed!

I may be able to try them all out on an ML I have this Sunday but I also have to wash another ML and a BMW 650 at another customer's house who lives nearby so I have put my customer's first and comparisons second.

Re: The more I use my UDM...

Also Scott how bad is the switch? Mine comes on monday and Lynn had the new switch installed before it left Autopia. I have not used the PC a lot but I don't see how I could ever turn it on/off by accident. I am expecting/hoping that the switch will just stay in its set position. Do you think that's a realistic expectation?

The rattle being gone is a very welcome improvement. Even if switch issues remain though, as long as it feels like a PC on '7' or '8' i think that i will be very happy. Would you say that's about how powerful it is?

In other words, Cyclo cuts at least as well as PC? Why, in your opinion, people keep saying that Cyclo has no corrective abilities?

Scott, thanks for the initial comparison! Sorry to hear about the car trouble though. Must not have been fun being at Wal-mart all that time just for a tire.

Absolutely ... customer first and comparisons second. Looking forward to your review when you're able to do it.
