Join Date: Mar 2001 Location: Autopia... Where else! Posts: 6,421 | DAS Pad Line Xfer to UDM Brand On June 1, 2007 the Sonus DAS (Dual-Action System) Pad line will transfer under Ultimate Detailing Machine.
At the same time, the original DAS Pads will be phased out and the DAS II Pads will be introduced.
The DAS II Pad line will consist of four pads:
DAS Buffing Pad -- 6.5" Soft Buffing/Waxing Pad (blue)
DAS Polishing Pad -- 6.5" Light Polishing/Cleaning Pad (green)
DAS SwirlBuster Pad -- 6" Swirl, Water Spot, Oxidation Remover Pad (orange)
DAS ScratchBuster Pad -- 5.75" Scratch, Heavy Swirl, Defect Remover Pad (white)
The foams are the same as used in the original DAS line. The new DAS ScratchBuster Pad uses the same foam technology as the Switex orange foam, but is 20% more agressive for cutting with a fine or heavy cut compound.
Each of these new pads will have radius edges and our unique "Polishing Pocket" grooves cut in the face. They can be used with Velcro backing plates ranging in size from 5" (least agressive) to 5.75" (most agressive).
The DAS II pads will fit the standard 5.75" Velcro backing plate that ships with the Ultimate Detailing Machine.

I just got out an orange swirlbuster pad that I bought early last year and love it
It is much nicer than the DAS orange flat pads. they skip and hop badly
However I noticed that the three grooved lines in the centre of the pad left circular marks when I used SFX 1 with it. the marks look exactly like the grooved lines but follow each other closely.
Sure I polished them out when I switched to the edge and lake country pads but could these marks be left in the finish when someone uses all four of the DAS II pads on a car? | |

Anyway, the orange foam is the most agressive in the DAS line. The other foams are much softer.

Maybe it's due to vibration and therefore horizontal movement of the polish grooves with SFX 1. After all that combo is a scratch and swirl killer | |

However I check autopia car care and they are sold out and better car care has the orange and green but at the $11 dollars instead of $6.60
I hope these grooves don't leave marks even with the finishing pad.

Hey I'd love it if you came out with foamed microfibre soft polishing and finishing pads | The DAS pad closeout went in a flash. I woke this morning to nearly 70 pad orders. We had only a few that could not be filled.
I'm not sure what your concern is regarding the grooves. It simply isn't possible for the pads to leave any marks on paint with a DA machine unless you have hard contamination on the pad.

Question: 1) Is the orange foam used in the DAS Swirlbuster pad the same cut strength foam used in the Lake Country Wolfgang labeled Orange pad they call 'Light Cut' in their line?
2) Isnt the White foam Sonus uses in their DAS 'Scratchbuster' pad more aggressive than the orange foam they use in their Swirlbuster? I have the latter but not the former, but intuitively I would think the foam used for a Scratchbuster would be stronger than that used in a Swirlbuster. ?

I can't speak for the Lake Country Pads, as I do not carry them. However, most of the orange foam is a product od Swisstex/Foam Partners.
The DAS ScratchBuster is also a Swisstex pre-polymer foam, and is slightly more agressive than the orange.
Please not that the ScratchBuster pad has a smaller diameter that the SwirlBuster pad and is also thinner. This makes it even more agressive, however, it still does a great job of buffing out to a nice final finish (given a good polish to work with).

BTW, some time ago I bought the Sonus 4" spot pads and 3.5" backing plate for my PC. I used it with my Poorboys SSR2.5 which is a similar cut to Meguiars #83 dual action cleaner polish, or Sonus SFX01 retore polish. I found the problem was that the edge of the 4" yellow pad, not being beveled, managed to cut some swirls with that grade polish. I even left some swirls when applying the SSR2.5 with my Sonus Swirlbuster pad. But when I step down to teh slightly less agressive Meguiars yellow polishing pad, then I can apply polishes with that amount of aggressiveness without leaving any micromarring at all. Th einstructions for polishes of that grit level all call for following up with a finishing polish. But because my M3 is white, Im able to do without that step provided I dont use a polish pad any stronger than the Meguiars Yellow or equivalent.
