Re: Ultimate Detailing Machine Project

What will be the difference between the original and the "proposed" 2.0 version?

Re: Ultimate Detailing Machine Project

I think you guys will just have to wait or move on. It is clear they are not ready to launch for whatever reason and just not ready to comment. I think when they have something to state they will do it since it is in their own best interests to get the word out. I am sure they want to do this right. I could see them just deciding to go to as a flex competitor vs the current PC /Meg's competitor.

I waited for Dec 2007 for the 220v, then it was Mar/Apr 2008, later June 2008. If I would have known that it is not realistic to get it for summer 2008 - I would not have waited for UDM2/220v ... I know David is doing everything he could to get it on the market, but why not give update on timing - disapointing indeed ... I would still like to get UDM2 anyway but if David would say - sorry not available in 2008, I would not wait and get something different ...

Re: Ultimate Detailing Machine Project

Dang I've wanted one of these for awhile now and was ready to buy, But it looks like I may end up with the PC. I read on the mustang forum the UDM was getting a pretty bad rep for breaking, something about the counter weight.
As of right now is there a reliable UDM available????

Re: Ultimate Detailing Machine Project

I have never heard a technical explanation for the failures but it seems to do with the brushes. If they have solved the root cause problem, a repaired udm should be better than ever.

I am hoping that they give UDM 1.0 owners a very generous discount on the next generation. It may be cheaper than fulfilling extended warranty obligations.

I got mine in September of 2007 after the new switch came out and haven't had any problems with it. There is a noticeable increase in power over the PC, not earth shattering but enough to notice. My only complaint, and this is a very minor one, is the cord is not as long as the PC. It's not really a big deal, but since I switch between the two (I keep a 3.5" BP on the PC) I tend to notice the cord length. After owning both a PC and a UDM if I had to buy only one of them it would be the UDM.

As far as the 220v and version 2 UDM release go it might have something to do with the way things were split between DavidB and DavidO:

Autopia.org Ownership & Future Direction

From the above linked thread by DavidB: ".......I am no longer a partner in The Perfect Shine, LLC (parent company of Sonus, Ultimate Detailing Machine and the Autopia-CarCare.com store)........"

It's just a guess on my part but I'd have to think that could slow the release of products being developed.

I agree on the cord length .. too short .. '

I have 3 UDMs .. 2 have failed with brush issues and I bastardized one of them into working by using one brush from each .. so far so good .. then the speed switche failed so I basatardized again .. still going ..

The third has worked for 2 months now with no issues and I use it 3 times a week .. Mind you they all lasted this long.

Too bad you can't buy parts as changing brushes/switches isn't brain surgery..

Does it work great ... yes ...
Would I buy another .. no .. not with the luck so far.

And I understand the new UDM is just a rebranded PC ( correct me if I'm wrong ) .. which I don't need as I have a PC also. The PC is my standby for when the UDM's fail.

Your UDMs are under warranty for one year under our no hassle, no cost replacement warranty, after that feel free to contact me directly if you need something Lynn @ The Perfect Shine.com and I will see what I can do.

UDM has now contracted with Porter Cable to make the Ultimate Detailing Machine by Porter Cable. It has the same motor as the 7424 but offers the great UDM replacement warranty, Velcro flexplate and a polishing pad so you are ready to go. The standard PC 7424 is set up for finishing furniture, the Ultimate Detailing Machine by Porter Cable is set up for car polishing.

Lynn
