SONUS Leather Cleaner and Conditioner

OK, So I hear SONUS leather cleaner and the SONUS leather conditioner is very close to factory Porsche leather. What I am trying to explain is the very unique smell of a new Porsche.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it even close?

As much as I love Zaino Z-9 and Z-10, I find them a bit too strong in leather odor or smell for Porsche leather interiors.

I also see the cleaner is "out of stock". Anyone know when it will be back in stock?

Some "P" car owners still use Lexol (ugh) and Connely Hide Food (geez).

In order to understand the Porsche/Audi leather aroma, you have to first understand how the leather is created. Porsche is very particular about their skins. Each skin is split, milled, treated with minerals, dyed then coated.

In my garage I have a factory half hide I purchased to do a full leather conversion on my first 993S. The skin is very thin... not at all like a Mercedes skin. I have two 1' by 1' squares I use for testing. One of them stays in an air-tight bag and the other I keep out in the elements and treat with Sonus Leather Care products. After years of aging, you can't tell the difference in feel, texture or fragrance.

You might be interested to know the the Sonus Leather Cleaner is a clear gel. I made it a gel, instead of a spray becuase you don't want the leather to absorb the cleaners. Most cleaners pull out the moisture and minerals/vitamins I'm trying to keep in. Plus, I don't want a cleaner flying around in my cockpit getting on everything. I want it where I want to put it.

The Sonus Leather Conditioner is very thin. It's thin because it needs to get through the micro-perforations in the vinyl coating. ALL other leather car treatments treat the vinyl coating, not the leather. Sonus Leather Conditioner treats the leather.

Finally, leather smells like leather because it's a skin. Many products on the market use a fragrance that smells kind of like leather, but it's just perfume. Sonus Leather Condition makes your leather smell like new again because it's moisturizing and restoring vitamins. That's what restores the smell... not a perfume!

If you don't like this product, I'll give you 110% of your money back!

Good to know the product is as close as possible.

Now, when do you think the cleaner will be back in stock? I need to order both.

I'm sure I'll be quite satisfied with them.

It just shocks me that some "P" car owners will use Lexol or Hide Food on thier leather. Lexol smells terrible as does Hide Food. The original Hide Food had so much solvents, that it used to smell like kerosene. I know they changed the formula and name due to the word "food" in it.

I always wondered what Porsche used as their leather product? Who is the mfg for their branded line? I don't think it was SONAX.

Let me know when the cleaner comes back into stock so I can order the two as well as some more pads etc.

By the way, I agree with you in regards to Lexol and Hide Food. What made me nuts about finding the right product for the Sonus line was finally running out of my original Zymol Treat leather conditioner. Prior to TW taking over mfg of Zymol products, they had the best leather conditioner on the market. It came darn close to being exactly what I wanted in a leather treatment. I don't care for their new formula at all.

I know what you mean regarding Zymol. Zymol being in CT, I knew the owner when he used to make wax in his home in Stamford. Now, they located in Branford, CT with more room and Mfg for elite waxes.

The old Treat was nice that's for sure. Remember the old Hide Food? Man that stuff was horrible in the amount of solvents they used to use when you could only get it from Brit car shops.

OK, so it looks like I'll go and get the 8oz size bottles of the cleaner and a few other items soon.

I was worried also about the size of the bottles, however a little bit of product seems to go a long ways especially when you use the sponge, it distributes the products better rather than soaking them up. I wouldn't worry too much on running out quickly.

I had to take the time to chime in on this thread. Last month, I bought a new 300C & I was looking for the best leather cleaner & the best leather conditioner I could find for my new interior. I've been a Lexol user for years, simply because my Mom used it for years on her saddles with great results. Lexol was "acceptable" for the 4 years I had my 2000 Honda Accord. But after doing much reading about it & speaking with some people who's opinions I regard highly, I've "retired" the Lexol. ( gave my stash to Mom.......The Lexol has been put out to pasture! lol ) I decided to go with 3 of the brands that I highly respect. Sonus,Zaino & CG. So I ordered the Sonus Cleaner/Conditioner bundle from Sonus............Order the CG Cleaner/Conditioner bundle.............Decided to just go with the Z10 alone from Zaino. I placed the orders on the same day ( back to back to back ) & they all showed up at the same time, 3 days later.
2 days ago, I had the opportunity to treat my new leather for the 1st time. Even though my new "C" is only 4 weeks old, the leather needed only "light" cleaning do to the poor ( or lack there of ) interior dealer prep. Kinda like an oxy moron isn't it? "Dealer Prep". (lol) I've always had such good experiences with Sonus products & since David B has such a passion for his products.......I reached for my 8oz. bottle of Sonus Leather Cleaner. I used a green MF applicator dampened with distilled water (slightly) & massaged a small amount of the product into my leather. The gel didn't foam at all & was non greasy-non oily. I followed the directions & wiped the leather dry before the product dried using a Meg's Plush Terry. The Cleaner is ph balanced & mild, no color transfer at all, with a pleasant "clean" smell. ( not a leather smell) It didn't "dry" the leather out at all. Infact, it left my seats feeling a tad bit softer. It removed some "light" stains from the driver's seat included at no charge from the dealership. (lol) I'm quite pleased with the Sonus Leather Cleaner! About 45 minutes later, I followed up with some Z10 to condition my new leather. I figured that since I've got the "Z" on the exterior, I may as well have the "Z" on the inside. To make a long story short...........My leather is now cleaned, conditioned & protected. It looks/smells/feels like it's in better than new condition.

Lucas, I easily do my Cayenne interior (dash, console, doors, seats) six to eight times with a single bottle.
