July Entry: 1995 Porsche Carrera

Hey everyone.

This 1995 Porsche Carrera has seen three different owners in its lifetime. The gentleman that currently owns it came into my store looking for some good detailing products. He invited me outside to take a look at the car so I could give him a judgement call. I decided to offer him my services. Told him the process of obtaining a swirl, and defect free finish. I also told him that i've only had a few PC details under my belt, and I would do my best, but things didn't look to bad.

He called me about a month later, and I have no clue what happened to this car during that month. He must of tried washing it with a brush at the car wash or something in the mean time. Things looked OK under the sun, but once I busted out the halogens things quickly got ugly.

Took some quick pics outside to see what I was dealing with.

Decided to pull the Porsche into my garage and take a better look at things. Take note of the dirty wheel wells, and brake dust build up on the wheels. Also the paint is a bit oxidized.

And finally under the halogens

The wheels and tires were battered and worn. Wheels had all sorts of rock chips, and curbing on them. Not to mention it looked like no one has cleaned the wheel in such a long time.

First up I washed the car with Meguiars NXT Wash. Next I attacked the wheels with some Eagle One A2Z, agitated with a Meguiars wheel cleaning brush.

After I was done with that I dressed the wheel wells with some ArmorAll original tire foam.

Claybar was definitely a necessity on this car. It had 15 years of contaminant build up on the paint surface, and it showed.

Heres the ClayMagic clay bar before..

..and after.

After that it was ready for some compounding. Left side is attacked with Optimum Hyper Compound with a Yellow cutting pad.

And some pictures after the restoration.

Clean wheels anyone?

No more swirls in the sun, or under the halogens.

And some dripping wet pics of the finished product.

The gentleman was very pleased to say the least. I only charged him $125, but he was quick to make the check out for $150.

Total hours spent detailing: 14 hours.

Process:

Optimum Hyper Compound via PC speed 5.5 - My new go to compound, worked wonderfully with the PC and had a long working time. Only complaint is it sort of gunked up the pad quite a bit.

Optimum Polish via PC speed 5.5
- My finishing polish. The OHC/OP combo is unbeatable.

ClearKote RMG via PC speed 3.5/4[/b] - Been using it for a while, absolutely love it. Definitely darkened and wet the paint quite a bit. Really wow'ed mean as I wiped it off of this car.

PoorBoys EX via PC 3.5/4 - One of the best sealants I have ever used. Let it cure for an hour and wiped it off to a nice shine.

ClearKote CMW via PC 3.5/4
- Probably the best liquid wax I have ever used. I like paste waxes, but really wanted to give this car a deep, wettening effect so this was my go to wax for this job.

Tires were dressed with Megs All Season Tire Dressing. I picked this dressing up about six months ago, and still have half the bottle left. I applied it using a foam brush and spread across evenly, and not to thick. Buffed off to a nice sheen and restored the tires.

Pads in use were LC yellow, orange, white, and black. Meguiars Yellow polishing pad. Love all these pads.

Hope everyone enjoys, and thats all. Ty.

excellent work!

Maybe you were using too much OHC. One Polish that I have never had such issues with. I use LC pads as well.

Nice work!

But 14 hours for $125.00 ?! That's selling yourself way short buddy...make sure to charge on a more hourly scale next time.
