(May Entry)First paid job...200K mile GMC Jimmy

EDIT*** MORE PICS ON PAGE 2****PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT!!

This is my first paid detial, and only my 2nd full detail EVER. Its a 96 Jimmy and he's got just under 200K miles on it. He works at an asphalt recycling plant. The plant crushes all the old blacktop and then recycles it....obviously making a big mess of flying particles floating through the air, and he decided to park downwind. He didn't believe me that I could get the stuff off his truck as it was literally baked on from the sun, and the enitre vehicle had a texture to it that was pretty similar to like a spray in bed liner for a pickup truck.

Well, a quick demonstration of what a claybar can do and he was very willing to give me $100 to detail the exterior.

Here's what I was able to pull off:

AWESOME WORK! You should write up your process/products usage, include more pics and enter it into the Extreme Detail Contest for May!

Wash
Meguiars Claybar
Wash
3m Rubbing Compound Fine Cut 39002 with a yellow pad on the PC
3m Swirl Mark Remover for Dark Cars 39009 with a white pad on the PC
3m Imperial Hand Glaze 39007 with a white pad on the PC
NXT Wax applied with a gray pad on the PC
.....all steps buffed out by hand with many microfiber towels.
Then I just scrubbed the wheels real well
Meguiars Tire Shine on the tires
and did the windows with ye old Windex

All tolled, it was about 5 hours of labor...is that fast/slow/average? I'm a total noob to this stuff and got to wondering while doing this project, how long it takes you professionals to do as many steps as I did...

Thanks for the feedback guys...pretty happy with it for only my 2nd go round with all the products.

WOW, I prolly would have taken at least 6-7 hours with those steps. Even as a noob, that is great work. Looks like you did a lot of reading on this forum

Excellent detail
5 hours sounds reasonable to me.

This is yet another proof that one does not need fancy products to achieve great results.

good job !

would you ever use both the 3M glazes again (the SMR for dark cars and the imperial hand glaze)

or did you feel it was a bit overkill/redundant?? jus wonderin'.
