Opposite of losing weight
This is what I am talking about. Info on bulking up healthy. I am 6'1 150lbs used to weigh 175 but after going thru 3 surgeries in 6 months (actually after the first surgery and finding out I had cancer I lost 30 lbs), 5 cycles of chemo, a visit to the hospital w/lots of goodies such as vitamins, a blood transfussion, and many test). After all that 9 months later I am still hovering at 150lbs. I eat like crazy and I am very skinny and thin. I told my GF when I was out of town I did a leg lift and lifted 295lbs. Her comment was "And your legs didnt snap. You get them sewed up on the plane" I know I am skinny and I eat 4 to 5 times what ever and anything that is in reach.
For example this week I have eaten 12 Hard Tacos, 5 Steak Soft Tacos, 4 Cinniminon Twist(sp), 7 doulbe cheese burgers, 4 large fries, and I have no clue in how many gallons of water/juice. This is not out of the ordinary for me at all. I eat like this all the time and I don't gain anything. Maybe this is just my time in life to be able to eat what ever I want and not gain a thing but at the same time I want to gain some weight/muscle mass. (Does not include breakfast or Dinner or late night meals)
I do ab workouts, rollerblade, run about 4 miles a week, and I am about to start riding my bike as well as playing different sports again.
Am I stressing for nothing or is there something that I should really bring to my doctors attention?

Re: Opposite of lossing weight
I was going thru Testicular cancer my last treatment was on my 20th birthday last year. Now all I have to do for the next 5 years I have to have CT scans/ultrasounds and blood tests (Until my doctor can say I am cured).
Thankyou

Re: Opposite of lossing weight
Monte78Carlo2k1- Glad to hear you're healthy and that your biggest concern in that area is bulking up
Leaving aside everything you went through, some people simply have a *very* fast metabolism at your age; I did. Other than exercising well and making sure you get enough protein, I think you just need to accept that you're an ectomorphic guy.
I do think you oughta discuss it with your MD just to make sure everything's OK, but other than that I think you got it when you said "Maybe this is just my time in life to be able to eat what ever I want and not gain a thing". Lots of guys like us wish we could bulk up with a lot of muscle, but it just doesn't always work out that way.
FWIW I concentrated on low-rep/heavy weight work to compensate for how I was naturally built. I limited my cardio to brief intense sessions that would help with my cardiovascular health while not burning off the muscle I was working so hard for.
Don't overtrain, it'll only be counterproductive.
Around your early-mid 30s your metabolism will start to slow down a bit, and by the time you're in your 40s you'll probably have to pay a little attention to what you eat. Until then, develop a good exercise regimen that you can stick with for the rest of your life.

I agree with most of the above. Don't do much cardio if you want to add muscle mass. Lift weights and eat lots of clean food directly afterwards. Make sure you get plenty of rest, at least 7 hours of good sleep a day.

None of the above will help you bulk up much. Bench, Military press, Squats and Deadlifts are your friends for mass. So is varying your routine. Just going with heavy weights all the time will make you hit a plateau. Some people say your muscles get complacent, but I think its all in your head, you just need variety.
Good luck, and stay healthy!

Re: Opposite of losing weight
Same boat here. 8 months ago I weighed a tiny 117 lbs at age 19. Now 20, I have added over 20 lbs of lean muscle mass to my body, and still waiting for more. I feel too as though I have tried EVERYTHING and just cannot seem to gain anymore weight. I took protein, creatine, NO2, and weight gainer shakes religiously in the first 4 months, and that was where all the gains were.
Training is hard, not only the work, but sticking to a schedule for working out, and also consuming meals. You've gotta eat EVERY 2 hours. High carbs, high protein meals. Taco Bell and Mcdonalds aren't going to add any healthy weight to you. Try checking out Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site. and Bodybuilding Supplements Online for some tips and maybe some products to try. Just keep at it and it will come, and if not, at least you'll be healthy. All the trainers at my gym said that it was "VERY HARD" for smaller guys to gain weight.
Free weights and compound movements (deadlifts powercleans) will be your best friend. Also switching up your routine every so often will help to train different muscles. Good luck!
HTH

Re: Opposite of losing weight
Hey, Bro! Hope everything comes out excellent and my best wishes for you! I had almost the same problem like you: 6'-0" 142lbs since I was 15 and couldn't make anymore than that until 2005. I'm 27 now, and wasn't until I was 25 that I made it to 190lbs. Wanna know the trick?
Getting married!
But seriously, try to go to the gym, and create a body building routine. Not to get you huge, just to tone a little and build muscle. Take as well some protein and vitamins, and you'll get some weight.

I was in the nutritional field for 22 years. I am 6'3 and used to weigh 143. Skinny skinny skinny. I went up to 210lbs at less than 7% body fat.
If you really want to put on new muscle tissue ina very healthy way, let me know. I just need to know your blood type.

Heh heh, when you are in shape it's hard to find off-the-rack pants that fit too. Today's pants aren't cut for guys with muscular glutes and legs. For casual pants, I have to buy the baggiest style available and get them one size too big, then have the waist taken in.
Bigfoot- Heh heh, I work so hard coaching my wife's workouts (loading the bar, handing her dbells, etc.) that it's almost like an active-rest session
