I am there
Good idea. I am 6'2" and 220 lbs. I would like to get down to the 190's again. It is not that people point at me and say I am fat, it is merely that I feel heavy, and do not feel overall as good as when I weighed less.
Try this.... go find something that weighs around 30 lbs or so. Then carry the object up and down the stairs just once. Compare that to when you go up and down with only your own weight. BIG difference. Think about how you would feel with 30 lbs less weight, and you are hauling your butt up the stairs. The thing is, the weight comes on with stealth, and comes off with such work. The weight trick is something that will give you the incentive by actually feeling what it would be like without the added weight.
Good luck to all!
Jeff

Yeah, I wouldn't be so mad if I didn't have this body fat stuff. Whatever though; I got basketball practice 6 days a week and run 2 miles before it. Should help me lose some slight amount of weight. I'm fine with 190 if it's all or close to all muscle.

Nothing can help with weightloss more than resistance training.
Resistance training outweighs all the benefits of everything else you can do, even cardio.
The good thing about it, is you don't have be to strict on a diet since eating is a good thing for growing muscles.
In fact you are encouraged to eat 6 small meals a day. Most big eaters can't keep up, which is a refreshing thing. Most people take forgranted weight training, thinking it's for body buliders.
I'm on the trying to gain weight. But not fat tissue (which is easy) but lean muscle mass (which is next to impossible).
I've given in on the gaining lean muscle mass without gaining fat. The quickest way (for me) is to gain fat (which supports muscle growth by giving you more strength to lift more and make muscles grow)

YoSteve,
You're absolutely correct... eat smaller meals throughout the day and the weight just comes off. I'm 5-11. Topped out at 210 about 18 months ago and decided I need to change things. Started by walking 3-4 days per week, stretching, and basic lifting (lighter amounts, more reps). In addition, I started to change my eating habits -- go out to dinner, eat half a portion, take the other half home and eat it for lunch the next day.
Present day -- I'm up to 160 (from 150) and feel so much better. I'm still trying to add on another 15 lbs of muscle. I usually eat at 8AM (full breakfast), 10AM (fruit & granola), 12noon (leftovers cut in half), 2PM (other half of leftovers, 4pm (snack or 2 full glasses of water in addition to rest of water intake), then dinner at 6 or 7. Workout 4 days a week, tennis/golf on weekends.
My metabolism sped up so much I actually had to force it to slow down when I hit 150. I support all of you, whether you're trying to drop 10 pounds, or 100 pounds. Good luck!

5'6" 140.. I think I'm ok. Light, fast and strong is what I'm aiming for. Hauling 440 pounds at least 8 times a week sorta helps along with routine ( As soon as I get it started again). Need to be careful though, a hernia isn't fun at all.
I guess I don't really know what its like to try to loose weight since I'm one of them skinny, could never be big no matter how much weight lifted, pulled and pushed, even tried stuffing myself, kinda dudes.
All I know is it's a challenge. Hats off to you guys. "The body breaks first before the will" is my moto during workouts, I'm cheering you people on.

Yeah, the meals/resistance training are where its at. Right now, I'm 6' 255lbs, 11% B/F and getting ready for my next competition (amat. stuff).
For the "off season" I eat 4 big meals aday (slow metabo down), however during the on season, I'm getting about 7-8 meals aday (speed meta. up for fat burning). Train for 45 mins. 3 days a week and do 120 mins. cardio for mant...push/legs/pull is on of the best programs.

As a firefighter...I have to stay as healthy as possible to do "da job".
I do an combination of cardio and weight training and walk an average of 2 to 4 miles a day with my dogs(not this week though..too much rain!)
I did slack off for a while and I felt it. I am back with the program now!
