I've dropped 4 pounds since I started cutting out high cholesterol foods and taking the fish oil supplements so that is a good thing. Giving up BOBs (breakfast on a bun, sausage, egg and cheese) at Whataburger isn't easy but to cut my cholesterol and lose the 25 pounds I've been yo-yo'ing with the last 10 years for good would be nice.

Thanks for the info on your dosage.

Hmmmm, trying to word this delicately. Have you noticed any digestive type side effects from taking such a large dose of fish oil?

I know I can always pick up good info from you on a variety of subjects!

I would ask about your first two comments...

I don't view many salad veggies as being large carb contributors. I guess you could count carrots there, but lettuce/spinach/broccoli etc. don't really register for me. I would tend to side more the the gov't suggestion as salads (of course skipping the obvious croutons/fatty salad dressings [I prefer grapeseed oil and basalmic or apple cider vinegar]) do tend to help prevent overeating during the main course.

Did you omit the cheese suggestion. Yeah, it contains fats, but dairy proteins IMO are great snack options and do tend to provide a feeling of fullness.

I join your admiration club of the fish oil supplements. I've been taking them for years. My personal stash comes from Carlson Labs. My daily intake is less than yours, but I take 1 dose of Salmon Oil in the A.M. and 1 dose of Super Omega-3 Fish Oil in the evening.

Edit to add (hit the ol' Enter key too quickly): Instead of fish oil, I provide our She-Boxer with a daily supplement of ground Flaxseed.

Noting that I don't have to watch this stuff as closely as my wife does, I think the idea is that if you ingest protein first you get less of an insulin reaction/blood sugar spike. The salad might be good/low-glycemic-index carbs, but getting the protein in there first is apparently important for some people.

FWIW, *I* start most of my (at-home) dinners with a big salad But I don't have to watch my diet all the much.

Omitted it as I don't eat cheese, simply don't like the taste of it.

Yeah, I know I'm one of the few people alive who never eats cheese, or pizza, or anything with cooked tomatoes like spaghetti sauce.

Re: Tips for Eating Healthy when Eating Out

Back at ya

Considering your workout regimen, it comes as no surprise to me that you don't have many concerns about your weight. More like working to take in enough calories. Kudos to you for that.

Don't like cheese? OH MY!!! Like other things on this site, when it comes to cheese for me...so many cheeses so little time.

When I was a younger man, I preferred my tomatoes fresh, not cooked or canned. In my later years though I've become a fan of all things tomatoes (though oddly not so fond of ketchup - go figure). As I'm sure you are well aware, the lycopene so important for many males, is more readily available when cooked.

Yeah, I know, but I simply can't force the stuff down, can hardly stand just smelling it Believe me, I wish I could...being unable to eat such stuff (including ketchup!) is an *incredible* PIA; I'm always "the weirdo who has to have some special food"

Funny, I *love* raw tomatoes on my salads

I've noticed that eating far less fatty, high cholesterol foods has solidified the process significantly if you catch my drift. Greatly reduced instances of a more watery process.

Not at the dosage I'm currently taking, but I did sometimes have those effects with *larger* doses. Note that my wife has *zero* issues with what she takes, but I guess everybody is different.

Note that I also ingest a pretty large dose of fiber every day. Things simply run, uhm..smoothly and predictably for me.

When I read about the truly *huge* doses that people with certain medical conditions take, I just gotta think that there must be ways to tweak the diet or otherwise head off that type of side effect.

FWIW, keep in mind that I eat a lot of protein, which I think counterbalances things a bit. And after a, uhm...late evening when the goal is hangover/inflamation prevention, one is often a bit dehydrated anyhow.

Re: Tips for Eating Healthy when Eating Out

Do a liquid fish oil supplement. I recommend carlsons. 1 tsp is 800mg of epa and 500 mg of dha, giving you a total of 1.3g. More economical and tastes great(lemon flavor)

uh-oh... that's what i do LOL. but then again... i run 4 miles every other day (use to do it everyday, but i didn't want to get burned out and it wasn't necessary) and my metabolism is pretty high so when i eat something, it burns quickly. i try to eat less and more often, instead of the other way around...

Definitely the way to go. Big meals are a killer on the digestive system. Having four to five small meals a day is perfect.
