Best/favorite protein shake?

I'm really into lifting and all and am curious as to what protein shakes you all have had good results with. I was using GNC's 100% Whey Protein, which did pretty well I guess, and just switched to Muscle Milk, but haven't been using it long enough to really say. When I run out, I plan on trying something different, so I want to know which ones you recommend.
Thanks!

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

My current faves are:

1) MetRx original Vanilla with a little ORYX Goat Whey (also vanilla) added it, with a bunch of strawberries, mixed with skim milk and ice cubes.

2) Labrada LeanBody Chocolate PeanutButter with a little MetRx Chocolate and Vanilla added in, also mixed with skim milk and ice cubes.

3) Myoplex Original Tropical Variety (some of the varieties are tastier than others ), also mixed with skim milk and ice cubes.

4) Post-intense-cardio: Nu-Whey "Protein Shots", premixed/RTD (I also eat a regular meal as soon as I've had a shower). These taste mighty weird/artificial but are a handy way to not miss a protein feeding- lots of protein in just a few ounces of liquid.

5) Post-heavy-workout: MuscleTech AnatorP70 Orange with some Isopure ZeroCarb PineappleOrangeBanana added in, mixed with ice cubes and water.

As you can probably tell, Meal Replacement Powders and supplemental protein figure rather prominently in my daily diet

I did a few jugs of MuscleMilk PeanutButter Chocolate, but IMO it was mighty *yuck* unless I added some MetRx to it.

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

Target sells the EAS brand which is my fav but I do like the GNC on you mentioned - that one seemed to mix the easiest of all. As mentioned above, I like to mix mine with oatmeal, some friuit, plain yogurt, ice and a little milk for a nice smoothie. I know this is a little OT, but what do you do for your weught routine? I'm looking to change my routine to add some more size but i'm struggling to find the right place to start.

I'd start with research, books like The Poliquin Principles, Super Squats, The Keys to Progress, and others that are physiology-based as opposed to the "get bigger arms" types of books.

More size: "big movements" like squats, deads, chins.. and as many good calories as you can take without gaining a lot of fat. As the old saying goes, "want bigger [anything]- work harder on your squats". Sounds like BS but it's true.

Thanks Accumulator, I'll have to try some of those. Anybody else, feel free to add your thoughts! jswift, do you work out alone or with a partner? I feel that when I work out with somebody else I work much harder and get better results.

I'm weird about that...I always do my best workouts solo. Everybody else I know prefers to lift with a partner The guy I used to lift with always got a better benefit out of it than I did.

Optimum 100% Whey is my favorite - add some dextrose and maltodextrin and sodium for a proper post-workout shake.

AbcBodybuilding has tons of great articles and a nice forum.

Myoplex - Chocolate Flavor

I always had GI side effects with the Whey no matter if I mixed it with skim, soy, or h2o. The Myoplex has a better vitamin profile, too.

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

I've used many different whey's (Isopure, Optimum, EAS, Dymatize Elite) and Dymatize Elite was my favorite tasting.

Usually my postworkout shakes contains 2 scoops whey (protein), banana (simple carbs), and oatmeal (complex carbs). Chug it down baby!

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

I like to work out alone - I can go at my pace and I don't have to worry about idle chit-chat wasting time. I've tried partners and it didn't work for me.

I like AST and Cyotydne. I remember the Met-Rx when you had to mix the two separate bottles together.

Heh heh, that was quite a while ago IIRC I think I was using some Weider stuff back then.
