Yeah, straight pro powders just mix thin (which is a nice benefit post workout, or when wanting a quick protein fix), whereas the meal replacements like myoplex and met-rx are thick and more filling. Especially the met-rx.....add LOTS o water to those shakes hehe.

hXc drummer23- I found Muscle Milk way too thin for me, I like 'em thicker than that

Or mix 'em with skim milk. Met-Rx with milk and a few icecubes is my version of a milkshake My wife and I joke that I mix 'em so thick I could use chopsticks

I hardly ever do straight protein these days, just those New Whey Protein shots after my cardio when anything heavier seems unappealing. I have a bunch of fishoil capsules with those too, so it's really protein and fat instead of straight protein.

If you dont mind me asking, what height/weight are you? You sound very dedicated!
Yeah, I've really stuck with the exercising and eating right. Before I retired I'd have to be on the StairMaster around 4:30AM when I had an early class so it all seems easy now that I'm retired.

I'm 5' 10". Haven't been on a scale or had a body comp test done in ages but I'd bet my life I'm ~172 and my bodyfat is no more than 9% (I can usually estimate this stuff quite accurately after having it tested so often: vascularity/striations on my abs = single-digit bf).

For comparison: when I was 25 I weighed 125 (!) and had a gut; then I got more in shape and was stuck at a lean 150 for years. Then in the early '90s I swapped the machines for free weights and discovered creatine and I've been where I am now ever since. I've leaned down and I've bulked up, but this seems to be what's right for me.

Great info, thanks! Not to sound uber corny, but I know I look up to you around here based solely on your attitude/willingness to help others (regarding detailing). But I have to say, hearing your physical prowess and knowledge inpresses me even more. hehe, of course it would, nutrition/health/exercise is a *very* important part of my life.

That's funny you mentioned the vascualrity in the abs comment....that's also how I can tell how my leaness/lack thereof is changing. I'm about 8-9% now too....more things in common hehe. I hope to be as lean as you are when I'm in my 40's. That must take tremendous dedication!

Oh, I don't drink milk as of 3-4 months ago....just not fitting in my diet now (that and I love cereal, even the healthy stuff, so with no milk around=no late night bowls of cereal lol).

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Yeah, it doesn't exactly get easier as one gets older and right around 40 it seems like *so* many previously in-shape people start letting themselves go. First just a bit, then more and more...and I don't want that to happen to me.

OK, I can see that; *I* just started drinking it in my MRPS about a year or so ago and now I put it away by the gallon It used to give me digestion problems but not any more

Heh heh, you can count on *that*

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

The first of the year I have gotten into bodybuilding. I have changed the way I eat and what I drink. I used to eat whatever when ever in large portions also I drank beer and alcohol on the weekends when I went out to the bars and clubs meeting ladies and so on. But I have changed that so my body can change for the better with the bb. I eat 5 - 6 different small meals (high protien, good carbs and fats) Still trying to work it out to a better plan though. But since I have started the bb friends have noticed a difference in my body though!
I am glad that this thread was started because I have started doing research in supplements and they just all to appear a cluster...But I will start looking at what those that have posted what they use. I have looked into the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey this is the thrid place that I have seen it reccommended.
Lets keep this thread going still learning all about this stuff!

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

Protein Factory products all the way for me.

Post workout shake:
10g Hydrolyzed 520 whey
25g Whey isolate
35g OatMuscle
35g Rice Oligodextrin
5g Creatine

Alex Rogers, the owner of PF, is a no B.S. kind of guy. He breaks it down for what works, what's the latest fad that should be avoided (NoXplod, anyone?), and gives great advice in the forum. Once I started using his products, I've not been tempted to switch once. And you can customize in the lab. Good stuff.

Have to agree with your bro, ON 100% Whey Mint Chocolate is great with some dextrose is awesome. I use ON Pro-Complex for any other shake during the day.

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?

Optimum is decent, I like their pro complex, but it's a bit spendy. I prefer EAS products, namely Myoplex for my 2 meal replacements. I just bought a new whey isolate from GNC pro performance for post workout. Something whey 28 is the name, on sale for $24.99 for 2 lbs this month since it's new. Vanilla tastes good and mixes very well.
