do you get sick often in the fall/winter?
with fall/winter upon us, how many of YOU get sick often in these seasons? also, do YOU get flu shots or take any type of vitamins to help boost your immune system? we all know how much it sucks to be sick and in bed, so hopefully some of us can add some helpful tips...
p.s. i take one or two of these each day, is there anything else that YOU recommend?

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?
I got the flu shot last year and got so sick that winter, that I decided to take my chances without it. Multivitamins I'm sure would help.

I just take a vitamin pill every day. Drink my protein drinks 2-3 times a day. Drink a lot of orange juice and I stay pretty good all year; except my allergies.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?
My winter to do list:
1. Wash hands frequently
2. Keep hand away from mouth, eyes, nose
3. Get Flu Shot
4. Buy Zicam
5. Buy Zinc
6. Buy Vitamin C
7. Buy Echinacea
8. Good diet with adequate greens and fruits
WHen you feel you are getting sick, you now, your throat is scratchy + a little malaise. Immediately dose yourself with Zicam, take Zinc, Vitamin C and Echinacea. Take everything as directed on the bottle for about 2-3 days.
Beats a cold eveytime for me.

Haven't being sick in about ten years. The Zinc, Vitamin C and Echinacea system seems to work well. I do it a little different.
This is from DR. Micheal Murray.
"How to fight the "Bug" with ECHINAMIDE" a liquid form of echinacea.
"Take Echinamide in frequent high doses within the first four hours or so of the first viral symptom, and it is my experience that the cold will not progress beyond the prodromal phase and it will, in fact, be completely gone the next day. This is the regimen that i have found very effective. At first sign of a cold or flu (preferably within the first four hours) begin taking two droppers full of Echinamide, about 40 drops, in a six-ounce glass of water along with Vitamin C 500 or 1000 mg and one zinc lozenge. Repeat this triple combination every 20 minutes for at least three hours. Continue the same combination every hour until bedtime. If you awaken in the night, take double this dose of all three. Take the same combination three times per day the following day and twice per day until the virus is conquered."
I have never taken it quite as much as stated, maybe half as much. I have also showed a few other people this and it worked for them too.
Daily, i take a good multi vitamin, omega 3-6-9, and Greens. I recommend the Greens, presently i am enjoying Green Essentials, bought at WalMart. For $38, not cheap, but lasts me a couple months. Like a coffee kick in the morning and i like the taste of this brand. Others not so much. Works as a hangover cure too.

If you bite your nails or chew on your fingers or pick your nose its a sure fire way to get sick during the cold season! Keep a bottle of hand sanitizers handy at all times.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?
proper diet, moderate exercise, and enough sleep is the best advice i can think of...regardless of the time of year. IMHO, following that pattern will benefit you a lot more than just loading up on vitamins and alternative preventatives, etc.

Not yet, but its happened before... Leaving a window wide open overnight might have had something to do with it.
I normally can never get through winter without getting a couple of colds. Once one person in the house has it it becomes difficult to avoid. I try to load up on vitamin c or a multivitamin and take zinc when I feel something starting.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?
Yeah, I stopped getting the flu shot a few years ago. Ever since, I've ceased getting the clockwork like annual flu. Strange.
I also get infected sinuses at least once per year like clockwork. It is really the worst pain that I have ever felt in my life. Last year I though that I was literally going to pass out and die. My genes are crazy--I'll be adopting.

I absolutely agree with that. Vitamins will not hurt you. But if you get everything you need in your diet then the vitamins could be a waste in more ways then one.
Stay as active as possible. Just think, all these germs are all around us during the nice weather too but people seem to get sick more often in the winter. Most of us don’t stay active and some of us even eat more junk food than we should in the colder seasons and our immune systems get weak.
Rest is very big. It’s the only time our body can devote most of its time to repairing us from our day and the abuse we put it through.
Also if you have kids, let them play out in the dirt and filth. The immune systems in children is remarkable and the more they are exposed to the germs while they are young the better their body’s will fight for them when they are older.
That’s my 2 cents.
