Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?

No flu shot here either.

The only time I ever get sick is when I catch something from my wife...between all the kids in her family and the ones she tutors she seems to catch something pretty often and every three to five years she passes a cold on to me.

Yeah its about 75-80F here in Ohio and then gets down to 50F or so at night.

I do the p90x workout everyday, take my multivitamin everyday. And since I am on the p90x nutrition workout, i eat pretty well. So far so good.

Plus I get many different kinds of vaccines throughout the year since I work in a biological field.

good for you andrew, sounds like you're taking good care of yourself. i also eat a multi-vitamin everyday and jog/run 4 miles every other day (use to do it everday, but was burning myself out). with the cold weather approaching (the air is cleaner which i like, but can get sick easier), i'll probably cut down to jogging/running every 2 days, and i'll need to buy some new running attire. BTW... i have a gym membership (24 hour fitness) and go a few times a week as well...

This is off topic but could you tell me about the p90x workout? Is it as good as it looks or should I look for another? Everything I see online tells me it’s the real deal but I never talked with someone that is actually using it. So if you could be so kind as to give me your thoughts that would be great.

here's some info, results, etc., as well on p90x... YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

if i could afford it right now ($2,499-$2,877) , i would really like the bowflex revolution and i probably wouldn't use my gym membership as much... Bowflex Revolution® XP Home Gym

Honestly, I love the workout program. Very professionally put together. Tony did a great job with p90x and p90x+. I like it because its VERY organized and you do a CD a day. I like to be told what to do in my workouts because if not, i usually get less motivated and quit. The program comes with 12 cds, 2 thick books. One about the program, workout logs, etc. The other is a FULL OUT NUTRITIONAL BOOK. It has what to eat depending on what program you choose. You can choose CLASSIC, LEAN, DOUBLES. The hardest part for me still is the nutritional side. I had a pretty bad diet before this. So I eased my self to eat better and then got into the p90x diet. The diet doesn't suck. It's actually pretty good. But of course, when you cook meals every night, things can get pricey. So I suggest cooking a good recipe from the book to make dinner/lunch for 2-3 days so you don't have to buy soo much food. I have basically everything on my computer also. I made a VERY in depth EXCEL spreadsheet which i put together to keep track of my progress. So if you do decide to buy it, you can have it and edit it yourself.

You can download one of the videos from p90x from a torrent file to see if you like it to purchase yourself. All you need is basically a towel, recovery drink, heart monitor, a few dumbbells, and their required chin up bar which is AWESOME by the way. Oh, if you don't like dumbbells, they ALWAYS have someone doing the workouts with resistance straps.

If you want more info, you can IM me on AIM and I can go in depth more about the whole thing.

* Just to let you know, the workouts are pretty tough and the trainers in the videos are of course in shape and can go the whole workout. Tony will tell you, if you can't go as long as they can, that's fine, just keep working out to the max you can do with the best form or jump around and do ballistic work outs.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?

Thanks guys. I’m really thinking of giving the p90x workout a try. I need something that will mix it up for me and this looks like it could do just that. Its been a little more than ten years since I stopped boxing and now my body looks like the bag I used to hit. I was training for a marathon 6 or 7 years back and lost a ton of weight, but after that it was back to cheeseburgers and pizza. I recently started to eat better and also am working out some so now I would like to kick it in to high gear. I’m a little apprehensive about buying a infomercial plan though. But I haven’t heard anything really negative about p90x yet so maybe I’ll give it a try.

Once again, thanks…
Jeremiah

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?

I don't get sick that often anymore ever since being vaccinated by the USMC ~6 years ago and then on going since then. I do take about 10-12 claritan a year these 2 years or so to help with allergies (usually just grab a straw and suck it up and keep trucking along, guess I have gone soft, lol.)

Besides the suggestions above? Exposure and travel seemed to be another factor that helps, getting sick and building resistance to different types of sickness (kind of what happens when you travel a lot, military guys know this.)

I heard of the P90X workout but stick to my routine of weight lifting, running, calisthenics, and the 300 workout.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?

Since becoming vegetarian about 7 years ago, I've hardly gotten sick...maybe 3 or 4 times. Strange coincidence, but I don't know what else to attribute my decline in being sick to considering I used to get sick about 5 times a year. Definitely in the winter though. Usually happens when exams and midterms roll around.

No flu shot.

Re: do you get sick often in the fall/winter?

I had a really bad cold about 10 -11 years ago. But never had a cold since then. I never had the flu. I just eat right and stay healthy, take a multi-vitamin and I drink a lot of OJ (not just to stay healthy, but because I like it too). I do get allergies from time to time. Sometimes my allergies get to the point that I can't look at a white car in this south Texas bright light. I have to wear shades to do anything with it. But it's nothing a little Claritin-D or Benadryl can't help.

I’ve seen somewhere that honey from different parts of the country and also local is the trick to protect yourself from allergies.
