Need help PLEASE

Hello to all, I'm new in these parts and need your expertise help.
Here's the deal, last July I purchased a brand new car a 06 GLI Salsa Red. This is my first new car and I was very excited and nevous at the same time "first time making payments" . Well when I picked the car up it looked great, but soon after a couple of rainfalls I noticed what the pros call swirl marks or spider webbing I think. It's only noticeable in direct sunlight and certain angles.

Since the discovery I approached the dealer and first they denied they did it and tried to blame me. And after I told them that I didn't even touch the car with anything, they said, get this and I QUOTE " THESE THINGS HAPPEN when we prep cars and there unavoidable " . With that said I contacted VW directly and they were no help I was even thinking of trading it in and take a hit, just to have a car untouched by the dealer and have an Autotophia member peal off the tape and detail the new ride. That didn't go over to well with the wife.

So here's were I'm at now, this past week or so my car had gotten side swiped real light but enough that it erks the heck out of me. I would like to know of any solid bodyshops in the area. Also would like to ask if I should get the swirl marks removed before I throw it in, or should I ask the body shop to do it. Also if I do it before the shop is there any Autopia members available. I live in East Boston but work in Maynard, anywhere in-between is good for me. Sorry for such a long long post

Re: Need help PLEASE

Is the side swipe just paint transfer or did it leave an actual dent? If it's just into the upper clearcoat it could be buffed out along with the swirl marks - I'm making a pass through Mass in two weeks or so and I could definitely help you out.

If you let the body shop *touch* any paint other than the damaged area, they will probably swirl the hell out of it. Sad but true - a great body shop is a needle in a haystack. If it does need some spray/dent work, have the work done first and then have an Autopian polish it after.

Re: Need help PLEASE

DEpending on how bad the side swipe is, you may not need the bodyshop. If you do indeed need one- chec kout ****'s Autobody in Sommerville, or Phaze II Autobody in Westford. Both great shops who know what they are doing. ****'s is slow- usually a two to three month wait to get in... As far as letting the bodyshop try to fix it, if the car is in there for work, you might as well let them give it a go. IF you can remove the scratch from without the bodyshop, then there are plenty of people in this area (including me). Run a search and see what names you can find. Hope this helps.

I love this from dealers! I think they would like them to come pre-swirled from the factory so you would be unable to find any unswirled cars on the lot that would contradict "they're all like that". I think that's why they all have those off-site lots...so the customers can never get a look at a factory-fresh car that hasn't been "prepped" with the DISO (Dealer-Installed Swirl Option).

P.S. As the others said, get the body work taken care of and then get a member to de-swirl it for you, it will be fine.
