Dawn and claybar for a boat?

Hi guys, Just had a few questions on a Ranger bass boat.

1. is it safe to clay bar?

2. Can you use dawn on it ,since gelcoat is porous I was not sure if it would dry out the paint. This boat has not been washed in 2 years!

Afterwards I was going to apply meg's #50 cleaner wax. Thank's for any feedback!

Re: Dawn and claybar for a boat?

Dawn is fine although i would opt for something like Knights Spray9 or megs APC diluted to wash the heavy dirt and grime off...Gelcoat is porus and will hold the dirt much better than paint willl.....Claying is kinda useless on gelcoat from what i have found....if the boat has been sitting for 2 years you will most likely need to Compound first with some Megs #49 and then wax....

Re: Dawn and claybar for a boat?

I would skip the Dawn and look at P21S Total Auto Wash
