Polishing Diamond Plate on Swim Platform

Hi. I've been a member for a while just reading all the great information on here on these forums, but a first time poster. This weekend, I wanted to polish out the swim platform on my dad's '99 Alumaweld jet boat since it has never been. So, I used some Mother's Billet polish with a Mother's Powerball and went to work. You can see the difference in this picture:

And, here is when I was done with all the support rails and molding. I think it came out excellent.

Now, here's my problem. The swim platform is made of diamond plate itself, and it seems like it has years and years of water deposits and possibly oxidation? I went to work with the polish and Powerball, but it took a long time to get barely any noticeable results. In this picture, you can see what I am working with. The left side of the picture shows all the "gunk" on the diamond plate, and the right shows what progress I have made.

I was wondering if there is any way to remove the "gunk" off the diamond plate safely and easily. Any information and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

99% of the time it just washes right off after you polish the diamond plating.

I've read that Flitz with a small piece of rug as an applicator might do the trick. Any thoughts on that?

I used Mother's Powerball on a drill and Mother's Billet polish. Is there a difference between that and aluminum polish? I'll try and dig up some pictures.

Is it clearcoated? If it is you need to get of clearcoat of first. If it isnt clearcoated try using a RO with cutting pad yellow or orange. If you can get Heavy metal polish or Truckers polish that works great. Heres some pics of huge job we did in Hawaii for the Navy. Good luck! Kerwin

Kerwin,

Wow, that shine is amazing in the second picture! Are there any specific brand products that you can recommend? Thanks.
