Re: Not Sure How To Title This One

User Name- Ah, those are great aspirations but neither one sounds like something you can really schedule or timeline in advance. And seriously, 35 still sounds young to me, especially relative to those goals.

I don't think I'd worry about the widespread notoriety though, you could have a *REALLY* significant case that hardly anybody ever hears about outside of legal circles. Guess that gets back to my thing about being internally motivated (something I take to extremes compared to most people). Heh heh, if you do handle a well-known case, I sure hope you're on the winning side!

Re: Not Sure How To Title This One

Good discussion men.

Overachiever here as well. Perfectionist to boot! Trying to live up to my own super high standards was what brought me to a "mid-life crisis". I decided that I couldn't maintain that pace nor demanding perfectionism. So, I decided that once a week I will leave a project when it it good enough for 99% of the population but still doesn't suit me. I also ask myself, "When I reach the end of my journey will I be wishing I worked more or will I wish that I enjoyed the time I had more?" This has allowed me to do some new things that have brought a lot of pleasure to my life. My life doesn't have to be a "dog eat dog" rat race and I have taken my ball and gone somewhere else to play.

When I got my yellow GTI my wife though I was having a mid-life crisis. Wait 'til I get my BMW next year...

I bet you're not regretting that move right now! A lot of fear and uncertainty going around the automotive business these days.

For my part, I've got a stable job I reasonably enjoy, a beautiful wife and four great kids. There's no such thing as enough money for me, that would be like a car that's fast enough, but as long as I can provide for the family and go racing and skiing a few times a year I've accomplished something! Career wise I'm finding it's best to choose jobs that are a good fit for my skill set, working with good people, and not rise too far over the level of my incompetence. Only took me 20 years to figure that out, maybe in another 20 I'll find how to do that and make real money!

Incidentally, people shouldn't let their age get in the way of their dreams. Harland Sanders founded KFC when he was 65.

Re: Not Sure How To Title This One

I'm definitely guilty of never being good enough for myself. Something I think about quite a bit is a quote a high school football coach used to say:

"Good, better, best. Never rest until your good is your better, and your better is your best."

I have many things to be proud of and that I have accomplished, but something inside me doesn't allow that perspective to come through. I know I have a significant purpose, and I'm constantly trying to fulfill that by figuring it out and being on the right track. It's probably one of the biggest things holding me back from being totally happy, but it also motivates me and drives me not to just "take up space." I know too many people who have no purpose/intention/ambition in life. I do not want to just go through the motions of life. I want to profoundly and positively affect those around me.
