I'm visiting Washington DC

Hello, Sorry this isn't a thread about detailing!

I'm visiting Washington DC for 3 & a bit days over the weekend with my girlfriend. I've booked tickets for the Capitols vx Hurricanes hockey game and we'll be having a look at the White House & Capitol Building and doing some more of the usual tourist stuff.

Is there anything to see/do in Washington that may not be immediately obvious for visitors or that is off of the usual tourist trail.

Cheers
Andy

PS. This'll be our first visit to the States.

Andy, apologies I did not get back to Autopia quicker after my holiday to the US as I could have assisted in your query. Take a look at the attached thread where I asked for Washington tourist advice and got great suggestions and information from fellow Autopians. I guess given the timing it is academic now as you have already visited Washington.

Cheers Hemi, You are quite correct about it being academic now, I guess I really should have searched the forum first . We did have a great time, think I fitted in a fair amount of sightseeing. We did everything that I planned to do anyway.
