Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

As the weather gets cooler...instead of wearing my polos I'm looking for some dress shirts to wear, trying to get away from the abercrombie look for dress shirts.

So far my collection consists of some Perry Ellis, Banana Republic, Claiborne shirts...

Currently looking at some Jos. A. Bank as well

If anyone has links, brand names, or suggestions to nice dress shirts (reasonably priced for 19 yr old) I'm all ears. I figure these shirts are a wise investment since I'm done growing and will eventually need them for business attire anyways. Thanks guys!

I wear alot of button down shirts (there is a difference between a dress **** and a button down shirt, they are similar but a little diffrent) i am also 19 and have found that burberry makes some shirts as well as Zegna. They run for about 200candian per shirt and come with the standard cuff. They also mkae the french cuff but then you need cufflinks (which is a whole nother topic) What are you using the shirts for? If they are to wear around your best bet would probley be banana republic, i know most of the collection and lvoe them, they fit well and look good. Plus there not very expensive. Good luck with the shirt hunting

For now, the shirts are too where to school and when I go out shopping and to eat with the girlfriend.

Right now I'm not looking for the "dress shirts" which would be fitted for suit wear, just some nice dress shirts that look professional/classy rather than the abercrombie look I'm use to.

I'm wearing the dress shirts I have now tucked in with jeans/black dress pants, and khaki pants. Hope this helps...Here is a link to a shirt with "look" I'm looking for in a shirt.

IMO, go for quality and fitment.

After seeing your pic, Josh, I know you are pretty thin. You should stray away from a traditional fit as they look like parachute on thin guys. Go for a "slim" "stretch" or "fitted" cut. I think a GREAT site to start, just even to learn is: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatS...Section_Id=205

Start to note the collar design, collar cut (in front), button placement, cuff design, pocket or no, etc etc.

I prefer a simple slim shirt, standard collar and button cuffs for most suit wearing. If I'm feeling "Wall Street'ish", I will go with the white collar, blue striped shirt, and big cuff links. If you are wearing them alone (no jacket), ones without front pockets look much cleaner.

Going back to quality, I have found Brooks Brothers to be of outstanding quality. I have three from Kohl's as well that aren't too bad, but certainly won't last. Express makes very nice shirts, too, a bit more trendy. I also have a bunch of Banana's, Diesel, and a couple various brands.

I have about 25-30 collared shirts in my closet now (was big into them in college).

Hope this helps.

I like a lot of the shirts they carry at JC Penney. They have the usual plain striped dress shirt, but also usually have some nice ones that are little more spicey. They have some pretty cool ties too.

I would suggest having your girlfriend go with you to pick some out. I know I have a tough time deciding on which stuff to get, so it's nice to have a second opinion. Women love to pick out clothes for guys. Plus you'll know what kind of stuff she thinks you look good in.

Wow I can't believe those shirts on the Jos A Bank site are so cheap. I went into the store once to look for clothes (actually, I just wanted a free measurement so I could pick out my own shirts) and their famous Traveler shirt was $79.99. A bit steep for me, so I just went to Aeropostale and Old Navy and picked up a few nice ones for $10-$19.99/each. Dressing nice doesn't necessarily mean dressing expensive.

Thanks for the help Sean,

I see too many thing guys like myself try to wear dress shirts and obviously they did not get the right size I will have to look more closely to make sure I get a slim fit.

For some reason I can't shop at Kohl's for dress shirts as they never seem to have my size in the style/color I am looking for. Macy's has some nice onesl that I like. And on the note of Express they also make some great shirts, I would agree! I have a few polos from Express and I love the fit/feel of them. Thanks for the help again, I was hoping you would reply. I'll take a look at the Brooks Brothers website and see what I can find

Grimm: Thank you I will have to check JCPenney out this weekend, and bring the girlfriend along She usually seems pretty happy with my decisions but I also appreciate/respect her input. The bad thing is she always takes the credit for me dressing nice

truzoom: I agree, I couldn't believe that shirt was only $20!! I just ordered an orange one

Josh: Also, if you have a Brooks Brother's near you, go check it out. Their stores are so well put together and it's nice seeing things in color. Thei staff is also very knowledgable and helpful.

Like I said, the quality is pretty much unsurpassed as far as I've seen.

+1 on brooks brothers...top notch. nearly all of my dress shirts (and a few suits) are from them. i have a brooks brothers outlet near me, which is nice. their iron-free (wrinkle resistant) shirts are excellent as well.

Thanks for all the help guys,

I ordered a few shirts off from the Jos. A. Bank website and I'm still deciding on which Brooks Brothers shirts I like. Will also be going back to Macy's and Express this weekend to pick up a few more shirts as well as khakis and some black pants.

I'm a sucker for a good deal, so I'm sure my collection will continue to grow

Sean: Unfortunately the closest store is 85 miles away in Indiana. So I will have to hold off going to visit a store until my Thanksgiving break from school.

Brooks Brothers and Jos Bank are great suggestions. Brooks Brothers may be more pricey initially, but they will typically long outlast other department store offerings and they look great and feel good. Plus, they are great for business attire. Their wrinkle free are the best, IMO!
