Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

This is a topic I know. The best dress shirts for me are:
button down non dress-Hugo Boss, John W Nordstrom, Faconnable
button down dress-Burberry, Hugo Boss, Robert Talbot

These are for active cuts which is less puffy arms and thinner cut overall.

Brooks Brothers hasn't been brought up for a while now, but here's an interesting tidbit for you. F.A. MacClure is the shirtmaker for Brooks Brothers. I sell their corporate line of dress shirts. They also make for Burberry, SAKS and Neiman Marcus to name a few. They launched their own brand at retail a few years ago as well.

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

Burberry is no longer made by them as of 3 months ago. As for Brooks Brothers, there shirts are okay, just way too conservative for todays day and age. You walk into a store and it is like "okay, do I want white or blue"....Besides, their fits are average at best.

Southern Tide

If so please let me know how much they are per polo and I will decide which ones I want, also could you look into the pricing for flat front dress pants from Southern Tide? I seen a picture on the site above and liked the look.

Thanks
Yepp ile talk to Allen (the owner). Great guy! Im almost certain its 65 per shirt (+ shipping) We don't have the new colors in so we could just get him to directly ship to you. Im not sure what my dads methods are.

Speaking of the new pant! That pants looks great! Ile PM you with all the priices + pics of all our shirts, and ties and sport coats. we will just take pics of everything. Sound good?

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

Southern Tide makes good shirts, but they are not for everyone. Their cut is very "regular" size and not for people that usually where "active fit" IMHO

Sounds good, thanks! I am rather slim and prefer slim fit so I may just have to order one to start with to see if the fit is right or if I can find a tailor to alter them accordingly.

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

I've recently become completely infatuated with the brand "English Laundry".
::::: ENGLISH LAUNDRY :::::

Their shirts are all kinda rock n' roll! Ebay has them for 10 to 30 bucks, I wouldn't buy them at retail (Nordstrom's, Nemen Marcus, etc.) b/c the quality isn't worth 100 bucks. But for the ebay prices you can't beat the style. I'm a small, thin guy as well and the shirts fit great.

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

Bang for the buck and a great selection of styles and sizes check out Lands End. Their 80s ply 100% cotton shirts are probably the best for the money. I have dress shirts from Brooks Brothers, Jos Banks, Nordstrom's, & Burberry. The Lands End shirts hold up extremely well. I wear them every day for work and they last a long time and look great. For the price you can not beat the quality of these shirts.

Also, if you want your shirts to last longer do not have the dry cleaners starch you shirts. The starch breaks down the fibers of the shirts quicker. Just Google "starch bad for dress shirts" and you will see a ton of websites with good info.

Edit: fixed link

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

I have come to realize that it isn't so much what you wear but how you wear it. I am only 29 but my field of work since I was 20 or so has kept me around older more professional type people, so unless you somewhat look the part, you do not get taken seriously.

A few things I come across that I can share. I see alot of younger 18-22 guys trying to go from Abercrombie & Hollister one day, to business professional the next, and most of them seem to think a button up shirt and some shiny shoes does the trick when in reality it does not.

French Cuffs, I see too many people wearing these with jeans or khaki pants and nothing else. French Cuff shirts should be worn with pressed dress pants and a tie minimal.

Belt, the most often overlooked part of someones wardrobe. You don't want to throw on a nice dress shirt, dress pants, and shiny shoes only to ruin the look with some crummy belt. Also another thing I notice is that alot of people will get belts that are too thin for the loops in their pants. Most men's pants have either 1.25 or 1.5" loops so you should find a belt that fills them.

Black jeans, honestly I didn't even know they made thoes anymore. Black jeans with a button up...go watch an episode of Seinfeld and tell me how that looks, might as well throw on the white sneakers to go with it.

Pressed or not, its either all or nothing. If you are going to have a nice pressed in crease in your pants, your shirt needs to be pressed as well. I know once you put it on and wear it a bit it will wrinkle some but the lines in the sleve and the straightness on the collar do not go away. I see so many people with a pressed shirt and non pressed pants or vise versa.

Socks, get socks that match the color of your pants. Nothing is funnier than looking across a meeting room and seeing a person with dark pants and black shoes wearing white socks.

Fit, clothes need to fit properly. When you put on pants and the cuff hangs down to the floor on the back and bunches up above your laces in front, its time for a hem. You also see the skinnier kids wearing pants 1 size too big and a shirt that is too large. The shirt looks like someone stuck a leaf blower up it and the pants seem like they will fall down at any moment.

Watch, you can tell alot about a person by their watch. Seiko, Bulova, Citizen are all nice watches from a time keeping and build quality perspective and look the part of a professional without costing you an arm and a leg.

There is alot more that goes into all of this, but this is just a few things I noticed and thought they were worth mentioning. The premis of this thread started out on shirts, but what you wear every day is a package, not just the shirt.

Re: Dress Shirts Reccomendations...

^ I couldn't agree more. I have been working in a professional environment for a little over a year now, I am currently 20. I have pants, the belt, shoes, etc...my main problem has always been finding nice slim fit shirts outside the muscle fit of Abercrombie, and frankly the only time I have been inside Abercrombie the past 4 years was to buy their cologne lol With the price I use to pay for Abercrombie in highschool on their shirts I could have gotten shirts that would last a lot longer and more professional.
