Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

Ha I've just been using my military dress shoes for formal occasions, semi-formal occasions I'll use my Rockports. Or if a little bit dressy I'll take down the mirror finish from my military shoes to a satin semi-gloss lol.

Yeah, they simply don't offer that many styles in "B" any more It's pretty much shifted me to AE.

Rigger and others no longer offer "B" widths...I guess it's becoming a trend what with most Americans being heftier than I am.

Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

The one thing I never skimp on is dress shoes. As they say, "it makes the man." Most woman I know, the first thing they do when they meet a man is look at his shoes. I strictly wear lace ups with suits and slip ons with just a sport coat or jeans. I just did a quick count and I have 28 pair of footwear half of which are dress shoes.

Bar none, my most favorite dress shoes are Church's - hand made in England, superb craftsmanship; nothing comes close. I love their store on Madison Avenue in NYC. I love kicking back in those huge wing back chairs and slipping on a pair. All I need is a glass of Scotch and I'm all set! Church's shoes

I have Allen Edmond, Bally and Cole Haan, (which are now made in China). I get them on sale at outlet stores near me. You guys can also check out Zappos with free shipping: Men's Shoes - Free Shipping

For the money, I find that Mezlan (made in Spain) puts out a very solid shoe. I have a nice pair of deerskin oxfords. The higher end Johnston & Murphys and Florsheim Imperial line are also good bets.

Oh, without a doubt, dress shoes do not come with rubber soles. Sorry.

Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

I wear lace-up oxfords to work nearly every day. I've found that Johnston & Murphy shoes with the Trampoline cushion system are the most comfortable shoes. They cost about $260 nowadays, but they tend to last around four years with a major recrafting done at the halfway point. My favorite: Johnston & Murphy:

Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

I have a pair of Rockports that I usually wear. They make my toes go numb though. I am getting a pair of orthotics to try and solve that problem. I can't afford to keep trying out different expensive shoes. I'm a pharmacist and am on my feet for 40-50 hours a week so good dress shoes are important.

Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

Those McAllister wingtips look sharp and I will get a pair as soon as I start my career and am out of thise money drain they call school (hmm everyone loves eating condiments and drinking fountain water as a meal, haha.) I also have in mind a pair of Santoni cap toes (both pairs will be black and be rested on shoe trees.)

Great thread guys but comfort is to each his own. I find my Danner 8" combat boots comfortable as hell and do most everything in them (except shower but I do swim with them for the water survival evaluations every so often.)

Getting harder to find Danners in "B" width too...if I ever wear out my Red Wing boots of that style I'd like to go Danner.

And yeah, a lot of guys have put in a lot of hard miles in Danner boots.

Re: Finding The Right Dress Shoes

I went to the mall to go to the Johnston and Murphy store today. I took one look at the parking lot and drove home. I don't care how good the sales are.

I am looking forward to getting a good pair of shoes.

Accum, do you consider Danner's to be about the same quality as Red Wing boots? I have thought about getting some Red Wings when my current boots wear out.
