Regarding the Griffin creme-
Any product-transfer/staining issues?
Does it do any softening? In my situation (which might not apply to anybody else), I *DO NOT* want to soften such items, not even a little, I just want to preserve them.

No softening or staining that I've noticed. I've only used it twice over the last 6 weeks or so to be fair. I mainly use it because I feel something like Kiwi would crack/flake off in this application. Not to mention it's a pain applying Kiwi to basket weave leather.

Re: How do you polish leather boots to a mirror shine?
If you're applying shoe polish to woven or soft leather you don't build it up to a mirror shine. Apply it with a soft bristle brush and while it's still wet use a buffing brush and buff to a sheen. It won't crack or flake when flexed.

Re: How do you polish leather boots to a mirror shine?
Ha-Ha...this forum subject made me smile!
I was in the 101st Airborne from 1961-1968 and used the t-shirt and/or wet cotton ball to polish my jump boots.
The final LSP (as it were) was a swipe of the cotton ball soaked in Johnson's Hard Gloss Glo-Coat floor wax. Kind of like adding a sealant to your work LOL. It added protection especially against the hot summer sun (which would melt all your work)
Funny stuff....thanks for posting the subject!
Toto

Totoland Mach- Heh heh, your post didn't surprise me in the least.. Glad you lived to tell.
Frito Bandito- Ah, OK..and yeah, I'd never use Kiwi for that as it'd end up staining something, sometime no matter how well I buffed.

If you ever need to find all the Jarheads in a forum all you have to do is mention shining shoes/boots
Semper-Fi gentlemen. It's good to know I'm not the only one here.

I'm a police officer, more specifically, a probationary police officer. As such I'm graded every day by my training officer on everything from my appearance to knowledge of Texas penal code. I figure why give up easy points in appearance. I also think looking as squared away as possible contributes to officer presence.

Hmmmmm, I may have to look into doing this again. The advantages of using a leather coating would be greater durability, abrasion resistance, water resistance, etc.
