Autopians,

I want to have some contests for product give aways. I have tons of stuff. Please share your vote or ideas on contest types. All judging will be via the membership.

I like the photo contests. I joined after the first one took place and have always wondered why there hasn't been another. With the summer months coming up, it seems like the perfect time to bring it back. I like the idea of just "detail pictures" rather than "reflection pictures" seeing as it's more open to everyone (don't just need a black car) and lends itself well to creative shots.

Definitly need to have different categories based on skill

Maybe make out some more quizes, those are always fun! Top scores win!

I think it would be good to have those quiz type contests, so that it would be more equal opportunity for detailers with who are not as advanced, and also for people without a good camera. For instance, looking for details in your ebook, or designing new logos, etc.

I'd like to see each of those. I do believe that there needs to be two classes for dark cars and light cars in the detailing contest and reflection contest. A white car isn't going to hold a candle to some black 2003 model BMW in the shade or something. I think more consideration needs to be taken in that area. I understand that if your car can't compete then it shouldn't be entered, but that can't mean that all white and silver and yellow cars have to sit there and get their butts kicked in reflection contests.

Maybe a section for 'Newer' cars and 'Older' cars. It's amazing to see a good vintage paintjob 30+ years old with a mirror reflection.

oh and for the quizes, plenty of chemistry questions

I just thought of a good type of contest. Everyone is always saying how it's technique and not product that gives a great finish, and how they could get nearly the same results with turtle wax. How about a detail picture contest where there is a cash limit on products used, and there is a stipulation like "has to be available at local walmart/autozone". I guess this would only concern painted parts of the car, and would suppose a swirl free finish. So basically just glaze and wax. Cheap and a pretty fun challenge.

Yeah, but how could you prove the work was actually done without posted 600 meg videos?

That's why I suggested that one of the comments be a best 'how-to'. If technique is king, then let's hear the best techniques.

I guess you'd just have to rely on the honesty of the participants. Maybe it sounds a little naive but it seems that this board attracts decent people who would see it as a challenge rather than an opportunity cheat david out of some prizes.
