X-Koted Red Boat

This should probably in the click and brag section. This boat had to be descumed with acid first. Then polished, to bring back some shine and then prepped for the X-Kote treatment. You can see where the tarp covers the gelcoat.

I use X-Kote to stop the fade and then make it easier to maintain these boats.

Bought into or the US division, i do believe.

For it's purpose, it works really well.

Re: X-Koted Red Boat

No the trailer was not done. I did polish the wheel wells and was going to X-Kote them but thought there would be a lot of foot traffic on them.

Ya the red really comes out nice. The customer was very pleased.

I heard he was actually thinking of selling the boat, because of the before condition. He tried doing the work himself and didn't see much improvement. Would have been a shame as it is a very nice boat.

Re: X-Koted Red Boat

Salty, the boat looks amazing! If you don't mind me asking, what's your product preference for polishing boats (cleaner, compund, wax, etc)? Also, when you say you applied the acid in prepping the boat, are you referring to a fallout remover type of acid? or more of an aluminum brightener for the hardware on the boat?

Really curious, thanks for any tips.

Re: X-Koted Red Boat

Basically for the oxidation removal i used Starbrite gelcoat oxidation remover, not exactly sure that is the name, with a small orbital, changing terry bonnets often. Some hand work with same product. For such jobs i like to use an orbital with terry bonnets because as they become saturated with product and oxidation you just have to flip it or change to a new one. It removed a lot of the oxidation but the X-Kote did the rest.

The acid was used to remove the freshwater scum below the water line.
