Garage Lighting???

We are building a new house and I would like to put in something better than the standard two 60W bulbs to begin with.
I have seen lots of flourescent but I am in Canada and not sure if they can withstand the -30 degree weather.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they can! They make special flourescent fixtures specifically made for sub-zero weather. I have two in my garage. They cost about $30 each for 4' fixtures. They are called WeatherMate Task Lights #63201 (1-800-295-4448)

I would recommend using a combination of flourescent and incandescent lighting fixtures. Consult with a LARGE lighting supply house and describe to them your budget and needs. Have the builder run an Extra lighting service in your garge so you can control the mix of lights. Congrats on the new house.

PS Don't forget the internet and stereo wiring to the garage and make sure you get 2 sets of laundry hook-ups. 1 in the house for the wife. 1 in the garage for you and the microfiber towels

I have a very small garage. I use 12 4' flourescent tubes and 16 halogen spot/flood lights. For the halogen lights I have three different dimmers so I can control how much light I put out.

Good lighting in the garage is very important.

But of course
When getting a quote on structured wiring I told the guy I wanted a full run to the garage (Cable, Cat 5e, telephone).
He just looked at me kinda funny and said "OK"
