My First Garage

My wife and I moved about a month ago, and now have our own garage. I'm not completely finished with it, but I'm off to a good start. What do you guys think!

I was wondering how those Craftsman cabinets would look mounted now that I've seen it I'm getting one too.

Thanks guys! The Craftsman set-up is awesome. You could jump up and down on that workbench and it would flex an inch. The cabinets really hold a lot too. Lighting is an issue due to lack of outlets. There are only two in the entire garage. One by the vacuum and one by the remote garage door opener. There is a regular bulb on the ceiling, which I upgraded to 100 watts, but I could use more light. I have a 1000 watt halogen light that I use for detailing, but that thing really gives off a lot of heat.

Two outlet's your lucky, my one car garage only has the one by the automatic door opener and yes with two halogen setup's (1200 adjustable/ 1000) I agree that those things get hot.

I was at Lowes today and saw some 300W halogen light fixtures. One type can be wall mounted and the other hangs from the ceiling like florescent lights.

I'm going to be putting up four 3 x 32W T8 fixtures soon. Maybe over Labor Day.

Looks very nice, you're gonna love it. The 100W bare bulbs on the ceiling probably work pretty well for swirl spotting, if not for general illumination. I wonder if it'd be a huge job for an electrician to add some fluorescent fixtures.

If we owned the place, I would go crazy with the lighting. I also would have made sure we bought a house with at least a two car garage. We are just renting it.

Ok, gotcha on the "what you can do with a rental". You might look into some of those free-standing fluorescent lights. Might be just the thing.

You don't need no stinkin electrican to hook up some florescent's (no offense Accumulator).

Lowes/Home Depot sell T8 2/3 bulb fixtures that have 8' power cords already on them. Both Shop and Strip Type. The hang from chains.

I rent my townhome and that's what I'm putting in my garage. Don't get me wrong, I love my halogens but I only need them for spotting and removing marring.

They run just too damn hot and give off too much heat.
