I have plans to add some electrical drops in my garage. I am into RC and a few other items and only have one drop near the entrance into the house. I would like to add 2 drops on each side by the door and add a drop near my TV in the garage. Does anyone know of any good sites that discuss electrical how toâ€™s and garage renovations/Updates I can look at before I head into this blindly. Also well I am at it I would like to add an additional phone line in the garage so any input on that process would be great.

Oh,, lastly I need to remove paint off the floor. I painted it a long time ago before I new the correct way and it looks bad and I want it done right or actually paint freeâ€¦

You should consider at one additional 15 or 20 amp circuit. Is your garage a wet environment? A Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) breaker might be useful.

If your main fuse panel is in the garage, it should be quite straightforward.

However, I STRONGLY recommend the skills of a licensed electrician to do the work! You may only be allowed one mistake!

BTW, if your garage is typical, that lighting could stand some improvement, also.

I would like to do the following:
1. Mount the box
2. Run the wires to the fuse box
3. Have the all the supplies in place

Then get assistance with the final connection of the items in the box. Yes the box is in the garage. I would also like to add another 4 foot light setup... One over each car

Just one over each car isn't gonna cut it.... I had 2 over mine and ended up adding 2 more. You also should consider mixing fluorescent and halogen lights to make defects easier to spot. Just some ideas...

Install a GFI in the garage outlet circuit. It can be accomplished via a breaker switch or with a GFI outlet. Not sure how old your house is but chances are local code now requires a GFI in the garage.

I highly suggest you consult with an electrician. Each house is given "x" amount of power and if your breaker box (or fuse box) is already using up that power, you need to have some modifications done. The gauge wire is dependent on the length of the run and amperage.

Lastly, make sure all connections are TIGHT. Even check an electrician's connections (I went around our new house and checked...unbelievable the number of loose connections I found).

20 -25 runs are the longest.... I am just looking for information so I can prepare now because I want to do this before summer's heat comes...

I haven't gone looking around the web for this sort of thing but I think the best places to start are the local library, how-to section of a bookstore or the book rack at Home Depot.

There are a number of good "intro to electrical" books out there.

The $20 electrical book at Lowes is all you need to figuire it out. Worked for me!
