Roll Away

I would like to purchase a roll-away drawer. I am just getting tired of having to go to the shelf to get more tools. I would just rather have all my tools in one spot. I consider myself more than a weekend mechanic. I would like something where I can stack a chest on top if I get more tools. I was looking at the Kobalt. Anyone have any comments on this model?

If you are just a weekend warrior or a little more, it should work well. I would also consider the craftsman ball bearing models. you can get them for a good deal with the Craftsman club card when they have a special.

Whatever you do, get the ball bearings. Everything else is total garbage.

I am probally going with the Kobalt. From what i have read, they are made from the same plant as the snap-on.

The Kobalt stuff is really nice, especially when you consider the cost. For your use I don't think you can go wrong with the Kobalt stuff.

If you have access to a Costco, they have beautiful stainless steel roll aways. Ball Bearings and all the other bells & whistles. For overall size/storage area, they seem to run about 1/2 the price of Craftsman. It's a no-name, but I checked it out pretty well and it seemed like it would hold up. It's not the one on their website. I just bought a house that's going to need a lot of work or I'd be bringing one home myself.

I've had a Kobalt as well and was impressed for the money.

I am not sure that this is the case any more. About two years ago Lowes cleared out all of their existing stock of Kobalt. (I got a couple of good deals.) Then then got in a whole "new" stock. I heard a rumor that they switched from snap-on manufacturing to the same company that makes craftsman hand tools. If you look at their current line of wrenchs, it does seem plausible. I don't know for certain though.

On another note, I was in lowes last night, and noticed that the Kobalt chests were no longer blue. They are now black. The ball bearing ones are still nice, but I don't think as nice as they used to be. They do not appear to be like the craftsman ones though.

I'm getting a black Kobalt. I think black looks awesome with the blue border I have in the garage and it matches my shelving.

I looked very closely at Craftsman but the quality was just not there. Thin metal, poor roller bearing action, etc, crap handles, etc.
