Get a good dial gauge. I have one that's made by Victor Inc, I think that's the name, and I got it at Advance Auto. I'm sure most auto parts places carry them. Anyway, it was around $8 and very accurate. I also have a digital gauge from Accutire, but it's a pain in the butt to use. You have to line up the gauge perfectly to get it to read the pressure, my dial gauge has never failed me.

If I'm not mistaken, you can find these at Advance Auto/Western Auto also.

Accugage by Meyer...
...is widely regarded as one of the best around. It's a bourdon tube style so it tends to be "fragile" if dropped. Very hi accuracy and multiple chuck configurations available.

I use the same one that Showroomlincoln uses...a Victor mechanical dial gauge...kinda looks like a small clock attached to the chuck...I found mine at my local Walmart...
FWIW...just to see the accuracy, I checked the psi's with mine and a digital accutire gauge my buddy has, and the readings came out identical...

Here's the Moroso I have-- I love it:
Description: Premium high-quality instruments with brass internals and Bourdon Tube Pressure Element provide full-range accuracy to within 1/2% Extra-large 4" diameter face and knife-edge pointer eliminate human error Adjustable pointer can be calibrated at the race

I have several tire gauges and the one I like best is a Longacre Racing dial gauge. Can read up to 60 psi, has a bleed valve, a rubber encased dial, and is very easy to use and accurate. The two digital gauges I have are nice enough but both are harder to use in that they don't seat on the valve stem easily.

The one I have is an older version of the 5040.

i have two tire gauges. i use a accutire digital weekly to check my pressure. its a pain to use, but very reliable. if my tires are low, i have a griots inflator/bleeder connected to my air compresser hose that is mounted on the wall via hose reel. really makes it easy.
griots guage
guage, but buy accutire at sears for 1/2 price

Re: Need a good tire gauge
An "old timer" mechanic recommended the analog gauge by Brookstone ($13.50). He wasn't lying. I tested it's accuracy against some friends gauges that cost a lot more. The best gauge out there in my opinion, especially for the $$.

Re: Need a good tire gauge
I used to have a longacre gauge as well, but lost it or someone stole it. I'd highly recommend those I wish I could find where I left mine.
