Portable Garage Heater

Another thread had some discussion about heating a garage for winter detailing. Not having natural gas to my garage, I purchased a kerosene burning torpedo shaped construction heater. It is 90,000 BTU's, 115 volt fan and does a good job of heating things up in a hurry. I open the side access door on my garage and run the heater for 10 or 20 minutes, then shut it down and close the door. My garage is then warm enough for me to work in for an hour or more. Works for me.

Advantages:
Easy to install, just fill the tank and plug it in
Easy to move. It's on wheels
Quick heat
Not expensive to operate
No odor
Not terribly expensive, $100 to $200, depending on size
Stable. It would be very difficult to tip it over

Disadvantages:
Uses lots of oxygen. Don't try to use it in a closed area. It would probably use up enough air to kill you.
Not quiet
Not kid safe! Some parts of the heater are red-hot and could be dangerous.

Charles

Great Tips . Does anyone use a propane heater? I'd like to know if these are more efficient, just the ups and downs!

I use a propane heater, 60,000 btu's, bought from HD. I have an attached garage, put in on full blast for abt 5 minutes, with a fan circulating the air, and garage is toasty and warm!
