Flat Hose

I'm sure you've seen the commercial for it but has anyone tried it?

I am really interested in getting one because it would really take up a lot less room in the back of my truck than a full hose.

Do you think it looks like it would work or a waste of money?

I used to have a fla hose. The only issues I had was that you have to unreal the whole hose before you can use it. Also when you are finished I had to lay it out on the pavement (like a fire hose), and ensure all the watter was out before U could roll it back up into the cartgidge it came in.

The concept seems very good, a hose that is sturdy yet compact that doesnt kink and is easy to roll up and store. I searched on Ebay and got it for a little cheaper than they have it on their infomercial.

My experience is limited as I only used it once, but I concluded it was such a PITA to use that once was enough. Yes you do have to unreel the whole hose before you use it, but the kicker is it has to be perfectly flat before you can turn the water on or it will kink up wherever it is not flat. Its very thin being about 1 inch in diameter and to get something that thin to lie perfectly flat is a job in itself.

The "convenient" and "handy" roll up storage container is a joke. Its made of cheap plastic and if you can roll up this hose as easy as they do on T.V then I guess the moon could be made of cheese.

I could go on with a few more serious problems with this hose but if you dont mind spending 45 minutes solving the first two problems I have mentioned then by all means buy it.

The only thing that comforts me is that I am sure I am not the only person ever to be "hosed" by an infomercial.

Local TV station does a weekly "consumer alert" deal. They tried the flat hose and it was junk. Was hard to reel in, and the end
broke off as they were using. I would stay away from it.

I was given one as a gift (from Brookstone, I believe,) and use it occasionally. The only complaint, or problem, with it is that it tends to "cling" or "grab" the cement in my driveway when I drag it around.

The rolling up is no big deal, I roll up my regular hose and put it away every time I use it too.

If storage is a concern, it does the job. So, as far as I am concerned, it is entirely OK.

Many of these new "concept" hoses are not potable. In case you do not know what potable means it is the ability to drink out of the hose. If you have little ones or even a hound running around be very weary for it can cause a nasty case of the runs.

I bought this at Home Depot 3 weeks ago. It's in the trash today.

The problem comes in trying to rewind the hose on the reel. My wife tried to wind it up unsuccessfully. I then tried and found that you have to lay the hose flat in a straight line to get it to wind correctly. No problem right?

Wife tried it again a couple of days later. I come home from work and find the hose in a tangled mess on the garage floor. I told her that what I discovered (again) and she said that she tried it, got discouraged and left the mess for me to fix.

I stretch the hose out flat and straight and start winding. I kept getting twists in the hose that wouldn't let it set correctly on the reel. There is an inner black rubber hose that's covered by a green nylon sleeve. If the inner hose twists it won't wind up correctly.

We left the hose on our hose hanger in the garage and tossed the reel. Apparently, the hose doesn't like to be "folded". We had the hose attached to the water tap and hung on the garage hose hanger. This made a kink or fold in the hose about 6" from the tap. Well that's where it sprung a lead and that's when it found it's new home in the trash.

I found these two hoses available from Camping World, but I haven't tried either yet . . . perhaps they're made of better quality materials than the "As Seen On TV" brands.

I have the blue Camping World, its high quality and works fine for the trailer, but would be too much trouble to use around the house.

Thanks for all the info then.

I guess I'll have to look around some more for a flat hose...

Would sears or home depot have them?
