Re: Has anyone seen a wall painted w/ large squared checkers?

It'll look like crap. We just bought a new house and when I ripped the drywall off the basement walls behind it was a checker pattern painted on the concrete walls. It looks horrible. LOL

If you want to dress up your garage, you might think about dry walling it first. For the ceiling you will need to use 5/8" drywall, but the walls can be 1/4". Tape and mud the seams and corners and you're good to go. With you and a buddy working it, it's a one weekend job. Plus, if you put some insulation up in those rafters, it will be a lot warmer.

Re: Has anyone seen a wall painted w/ large squared checkers?

My parents had something like a plaster coat put over their cement block. They also had color mixed into it so they don't have to paint it. It came out pretty good.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not ready to invest all that work into this place. It's my 1st house and only plan on being here another year or so. My next place is when I'll create my garage heaven. For now I just want to spice up what I have (or just live with it).

Re: Has anyone seen a wall painted w/ large squared checkers?

I've decided on the following scheme. Too bad it's too cold to paint right now.

From Drop Box

I'm a decorative painter and agree with others who said that the crevices in a cement wall will allow the paint to bleed behind the tape you put down and it will look aweful. Geometric shapes and fine lines are best applied to very FLAT surfaces to prevent this. Here's a teenagers bedroom I did. Below that is my bathroom walls and ceiling in metallic bronze.
