Window Coverings?

I was just wondering what you guys might think would be best for window coverings?
As I mentioned we are currently building.
Due to the architectural controls I have two rather large/tall windows on the street side of the garage.
Should I just get some cheap venetians at Walmart or can you recommend something sturdier - possibly verging on industrial?
They must look OK from the street otherwise I may hear about from the commitee - or my wife
I may be getting windows on the doors as well but am hesitant as someone in our current area was broken into and the police said it was due to the fact that they looked in the garage and saw no cars and then kicked the front door in.
The police recommended painting black paint on the garage windows which they did.

I have venetian blinds on my double hung windows and window in my door and glass block (whick I vastly prefer) in my other windows. You definitely want to keep prying eyes out of your garage but want to be able to let as much light in as possible.

My wife, using her better judgement...

allowed me to install pleated shades made by Hunter-Douglass(sp?). They are white shear fabric that let a lot of light in but can't really be seen through. They can be pulled up or droped down easily to clean the window or to let all of the available light in. Having married an Interior Designer, I feel your pain!

These were'nt cheap, but they really don't look like a garage from the out side. I've also just installed a new insulated overhead door and had the glass panels installed in the top row of the door. I'm amazed at how much more light comes in now. You have to be at least 6'3" to see in and I think the security issue is minimal. If they're going to break in, this alone won't stop them.
