My garage, a work in progress...

I was referred to this site after ordering a UDM kit through a friend of mine. I've been browsing on and off during some slow afternoons at work and thought I'd use my first thread to show off some work I've done in the garage. I got married last year and the garage wasn't a priority at the time, but now that some other projects are complete, I turned my attention to get things cleaned up out there.

What we had when we bought the place:

- Old yellowish white walls, been years since they were painted
- Rotted pegboard everywhere, dude must have had a weird fettish
- Old shelves barely hanging on, absolutely filthy
- Garage door was falling apart, the door opener was on it's last leg
- Drywall needed repairs, holes down around the floor
- Only a single bulb fixture for light, inadequate for the space
- Switches and outlets were yellowed with age, broken face plates
- Old and rusty softener tank that needed replacement

Progress after one weekend and a few hours here/there after work:

- New insulated garage door w/belt drive opener
- New water softener tank and salt container
- All holes patched, old pegboard down, half the garage painted fresh white
- All new switches and outlets w/oversized faceplates, commercial gray color

- Pic of the new door and whole garage while I was building everything

- Shot of the overhead lighting w/conduit, tapped into existing fixture above garage door opener

- Here's the finished shelves, nothing fancy. It is sitting where it's going to be permanently, between the side door and window. I left the left side low to accommodate for the switch & outlet, and for the Craftsman shop vac that is going to be mounted in that space.

- The finished workbench. Again, pretty simple but it's solid as a rock. The top is 1/2" MDF on top of 1/2" plywood, with 2x4 braces every 13". The pegboard is just a 24x48 in. sheet, coated in gray. The workbench is going to sit against the back wall, so I haven't put all the stuff on the board yet since I'll be moving it later. It's trimmed with some leftover stuff I had in the garage, and I left an overhang for a stool or something later. Total length is 80" and it sits 37" tall, just a bit higher than most kitchen counter top.

- Just some random shots. My Craftsman tool chests that I need to reorganize & the water heater that will be re-wrapped, the back wall where the workbench is going to sit (the TV will be wall mounted on the back wall above and to the right of the bench), and the back door and corner (you can see the yellow glue on the door trim the dude used to mount the hand rail, ghetto as hell).

Still need to finish painting, clear the garage out, hang some cabinets, put down wall base trim, etc.

Thanks for looking.

Looks great. I plan to do a "makeover" on mine this Spring/Summer. It's nice to get ideas from everyone.

My most recent addition, haha. Finally had a chance to swing by a friend's house who ordered it for me w/a coupon. Looking forward to some much warmer weather so I can get my car cleaned up and spend some quality time with it.

Re: My garage, a work in progress...

Another set of updated garage pics after some more work this weekend. Need to finish painting and hang cabinets (gonna paint them gray to match the switches/outlets), but pretty much got most of everything where it's gonna be sitting. I'll have to pull the stuff from up against the wall when I put the wall trim down, but that isn't a priority. Basically just got a bunch of stuff mounted this weekend to clear up more floor space (television, shop vac, clock, fire extinguisher, etc.).

Workbench in it's place, television wall-mounted, clock, calendars, signs, etc.:

Shelving with the Craftsman wall-vac:

Awesome clock that my wife got for me:

Probably won't post anymore until I'm completely done, whenever that is.

I have that same clock. My girlfriend's sister-in-law got it for me as a joke, but I like it. Too bad I'm in graduate school and live in an apartment with no garage to hang it in.

Re: My garage, a work in progress...

Is that the Harbor Freight clock? I've been eye-balling that in their ads. I think it is 50% off now? Looks nice.

My wifey won't allow me to hang girlie calendars/posters in the garage -- or anywhere in the house.

I think she found it at Target to be honest with you.

We've had it for over a year, just never had the time to clean out the garage and get all this stuff built & put up until recently.

As for the calendars, she knows they're just pics and just shook her head and smirked when she saw them, lol.
