I would probably lean toward the UDM but in my work I run across some vehicles that have a scrape or two that dealers would pay me to remove, so was thinking maybe I should just make the leap to a Flex, even though I understand it would be a little harder to master.

If you have the $$, get the Flex, you can't go wrong with it and you may even wonder how you got around without it. I have the Flex, DW849, UDM, and now the Metabo PE12-175. But I use the DW849 more than any of them. But as a noob, I would recommend the Flex. Eventually someone will come out with a better backing plate and make it even a better tool. There are some things that are easier to do and faster with the Flex than with a PC/UDM.

No problems here whatsoever, still going strong.

Re: Flex 3401 VRG Headcount
Excellent addition to my Metabo Panzer and my beat up 'ol PC 7424...
Flex is quite a design...
Anyways, I 10/30 oiled the felt ring and re-assembled the backing plate tighter immediately...
Don't forget that.

Oil up the felt a tad bit, and while you have the plate removed, you'll tighten the bolt when you re-assemble the machine. Tighten it the bolt well.
No issues.
