new to deatiling advice needed!

Hello i am in search of a good machine polisher. i am looking at a d/a machine cause i am scared to burn the paint. well im looking at a pc but im reading that some sanders are really good. well i need pads too so the pad size doesn't really matter that much.

if this is a double post delete one cause i went back to check it and i couldn't find it.

any help is appreciated.

I picked up the UDM kit that Autopia has and I'm not going to look back. I think it was money very well spent.

any other comments cause i have been reading about using orbital sanders as buffers any comments on that?

ggk- From children to the elderly, I've watched people with zero experience do fine with the PC/Cylo type machines. Most people only need a few minutes to get the hang of it. If you use a mild/conservative approach and keep your wits about you, there's really nothing to it. It's only when you start to get aggressive or get careless that problems can occur.

is the udm worth the extra almost 40 dollars compared to a pc?
cause i can get a pc kit for 161.00 and a udm kit for 199.00.

my car has swirls and some light scratches(damnit people stop leaning on my car) if that has any influence on what people are recommending me. i saw that a rigid R2910 is a good polisher i can get one of those for just under 100.any ideas on that?

I use a PC, many people use cyclos, and UDM-from what I have seen the UDM at present seems to be more of an enthusiast machine(although many pros are old-school and just may not change there ways) Although you may and others have been able to use off the shelf orbital sanders to polish paint, they are still made as sanders, I would by a tool that is dedicated to paint polishing. For example I could filet a fish with a steak knife, but a filet knife will consistantly do a better job.

i think i am going to get a pc kit because if i have something seriously deep i can take it to the shop and have them cut the scratch out(i work in a auto body shop on the weekends, friends paint,yay only paying for materials).

i just need to decide on some product i have heard good things on the mothers 3 step kit and i have it already so ill try that but in eed to remove some swirls and do i need a glaze?

I would not say you need a glaze, sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes it does not, and if you are just starting off with the PC or any other correction device for that matter, I would stick to polishes to remove swirls, only because glazes can fill and after a few washes...the swirls/holograms are back. And if you are wanting to use a glaze for that extra bit of deepness, I would sugest one that has correction properties ie superglaze(note to all, although I have made a few posts and comments about superglaze, i am not a big fan of CarBrite) didn't want anyone to think I was a promoter.
