Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

I haven't used the Porter Cable, but the UDM is fulfilling my needs and it's fun to use! It's great since it comes with a bag, backing plate, and white polishing pad that CAN be used on your car, unlike the pad that comes with the PC. The switch issue on the UDM is fixed and you'll be able to get the new switch as long as you register it. It's possible that it may come with the new switch too, and you may have to pop off the old switch and put the new one. It requires no disassembly of the unit.

Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

Just to feed offf your thread and more info.....Im looking as well and I think the UDM is the much better deal..

Pro's----Is it ok to use the 6.5" CCS pads--not to big are they or is the 5.5 pads better with the UDM.

Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

To answer both questions IMO.

1) There is no reason to buy the PC. The UDM has all the features of the PC and 20% more power, why wouldnt you get it?

2) You can use the 6.5 pads but ever since in switched to the 5 inch pads my details are going faster and coming out better. I use them on the UDM and rotary and my confidence has sored .

Why do you think you have a better outcome with the 5.5" pads??

UDM all the way. The only thing I use the PC for these days is applying wax with a finishing pad. 5" pads allow for better correction and you can get into harder to reach areas with them.

I feel I have more control over the machine and I feel that those pads spin faster on both the rotary and the UDM creating faster cutting action for me. Paired up with 106FF and SIP they make a deadly combo. I am absolutely floored at how my recent details have turned out. Its like finally after 5 years I have a combo that works every time on every paint.

Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

UDM, just got one, works great!. The on/off switch is a little tricky but OK. It comes w/ a backing plate and whatnot. Even though you can find PC's way cheaper online.

I need to get some 5" CCS pads to see if I can actually cut w/ it. My paint on my DD was crap the spoiler was the worst, its still bad as the DAS pads didnt seem to want to do corrections. But looks way way better then it did just a day ago. Using a 1 step is a breeze also.

Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

I am tempted to check out the UDM, but must admit I use the PC 7424 only for sealant application. 20%more power to the 7424 is still a lot less power that the Dewalt 849, or the Milwaulkee 5460, but I WILL keep an open mind.

Re: Porter CAble 7424 or UDM

I'm no expert but I'd say if you have a rotary and a PC there's no need for a UDM.
