can a rotary wet sand?

I've seen some 3m stick-it wet/dry sandpaper that's 2000 and 2500 grit for use on a rotary...
that grit is usually for "color sanding" but won't a machine we way too fast to do that?

Noooooooooo!
If you want to use a machine to wet sand use a jitter bug style sander or an random action orbital.Hutchins and Dyna Brade make dedicated sanders for wet sanding.

Not sure about the rotary, but here is a new product you can seek further information on.

Let us know what you can find out.

Re: can a rotary wet sand?

I read everything at the web site I could find and believe an orbital type sander must be used. However I am still not absolutely sure.
I emailed the company requesting all available information on there products for automotive paint and clear coat finishes.
These products are very interesting.

Re: can a rotary wet sand?

Heh, sanding with a rotary is an immensely bad idea... We stripped my buddies hood with 120grit paper, the PC was slow in this one part of it so I used a rotary... it dug a divot into the metal!

Cool Re: can a rotary wet sand?

Sanding paint with a rotary works very well, assuming you’re looking for bare metal.

For color sanding you use an orbital.

Done correctly, color sanding with an orbital cuts more constantly and less deep than sanding by hand. Orbital induced sanding scratch is much easier to buff out than hand made scratch patterns.

PC.
