HTEC and orange pad...

I played around with this combo yesterday and it is a winner. It cuts but leaves a decent finish. Knocks down swirls fast. The HTEC has a decent amount of work time by PC at speed 6 and breaks down easily.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

by PC I would think that HTEC would leave the better finish. I've used OHC by rotary and it works well.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

thanks for the review, ive been meaning to try htec but it seems so abrasive, IIRC it can remove scratches up to 600grit???

Im glad to hear it finishes out nicely on the pc, i will have to pick some up. Did it dust up on you much?

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

600 grit? maybe by rotary with a wool pad. It doesn't feel gritty like some 3m stuff but it is effective. Used with a PC and orange pad it leaves a slightly hazed finish. It would offer more cut with a yellow cutting pad.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

Yea i definitely have to try that! I am lazy but i believe the description on the website says 600 grit, but im sure they are referring to rotary and wool.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

HTEC and HT HC cut much more with the heat that the rotary produces. They are both water based and do not contain any solvents to soften the paint.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

Heh heh IMO it'd take one really scary wool pad to remove 600 grit scratches with H-T EC. I *really* like the product, but it's milder than I was expecting it to be. As noted, it isn't nearly as gritty (or as aggressive) as some 3M products (e.g. PI-III Extra Cut 05936).

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

I love this stuff, used it today on a friends Tahoe. Dusted a little bit, but once I got the hang of how often to clean the pad it wasn't really an issue. Works a lot quicker then Optimum for me, seemed to melt into the paint pretty quickly.

i'd mix it with some OP to cut down on the dust. i have a 50/50 mix right now in my bottle.

Re: HTEC and orange pad...

I, OTOH, sometimes mix it with 1Z Ultra/Extra. That makes the dusting *worse* but gives a very long work time with less dilution of the cut.
