I was detailing my father's car with my 7424, and PC backing plate, when all of a sudden, the backing plate flew off leaving the bolt inside the PC. This backing plate says it is rated to 10,000RPM and I was only working at speed 6! I bought mine from Coastal Tool ( link here) less than a year ago, and it was supplied with a PC 6 inch backing plate.
Here are some pics. I'm not sure what to do from here...buy an extractor to get the bolt out? Try to get Porter Cable to replace it? Thoughts?
Here are the pics:

You might want to contact Mike at Coastal Tool first and do as above, he might have a better/faster solution, he's a real nice guy so please treat him like you would want to be treated .

Have not heard back from Porter Cable yet, though. Gotta get a flexible backing plate for this thing that doesn't fly off! Any suggestions?

Dear Vincent,
Thank you for contacting Porter-Cable. We are sorry to hear that the backing plate came off of your polisher. Please contact our Parts Department by calling 1-888-848-5175 to obtain replacement parts. Be sure to have the serial number handy for proof of warranty.
Regards,

| I'm glad they read my email about how my polisher is useless and looked at the pics I attached | |

Check the local auto paint stores locally where you live. It has a centering button for aligning pads. It's better than the LC backing plates.

PS. Told you so | |

PS. Told you so | FWIW, I've never liked the Megs' backing plates for PC use. Not nearly as flexible as the LC plates - doesn't matter much on a rotary, but having a plate that flexes well is a big benefit IMO with the PC.
