Why Hitachi?

I could understand it a year ago when it was $99

But now that is only $10 more for the 9227
and it comes with 2 pads and a nice tool bag why would you not buy the Makita?

F.Y.I. I have had a 9227 for 10+ years with no problems
so the 5 year war. means little to me

Its light if compared to other machines and even though 0.2 lbs isn't much it is still lighter and at the end of the day your arms will thank you for the lighter weight. Unless you are trying to get totally buff for the summer than I say find the heaviest one and add some weight to it (lol). Mike...

In Japan Makita polishers are not popular - almost all body shops and detailers use Hitachi's, for their performance and for the fact that that they are famous for how tough and durable they are - Hitachi also stills stocks and sells brushes and other parts on machines that were made 25 years ago.

Those who prefer cheaper models usually buy Ryobi. FWIW.

Yeah, I don't think most people will actually have to use the extra warranty, but its nice having the piece of mind. Both are very good machines, but the fact that the Hitachi is slightly lighter and has a longer warranty set it apart from the Makita.

I bought my Hitachi cause it was different and I never had a Hitachi buffer before. I have had a couple of Makitas that were awesome, but I wanted to be different. Hitachi makes great tools for the price and I know a couple of guys in construction who swear by Hitachi tools. Makitas are also works horses and are built strong and will last very long. So either one is a winner in my book!

For under $200 the Hitachi to me is very underpriced. I know some stores around me that charge over $300 for it.
