Backing plate mfgs? Meguiar's vs Lake Country

I am going to purchase a 6.5" set of the LC CCS pads. I see that LC recommends their 4 7/8" backing plate for these pads over their 6.25" backing plate, probably because of the extra spacing between the pad and the plate. The meguiar's 5" and 6" backing plates will work with the CCS pads as well.

Is there a quality difference or preference between the Meguiar's and Lake Country backing plates?

I am looking at either:

1. LC 4 7/8" backing plate
2. Meguiar's 5" backing plate
3. Meguiar's 6" backing plate

Of course this decision would be much easier if I simply went with the edge 2k system

I have not had good luck with the Meg's backing plates.

Re: Backing plate mfgs? Meguiar's vs Lake Country

I have the Meg's 5" bp for the PC and when I had to get a rotary backing plate, I ended up getting the LC flexible bp. I can't tell you if the LC is any better because I've yet to use it enough to give you my opinion, but the reason for the switch was the fact that I hated how the Meg's backing plate cuts into my pads. It's a hard plastic with a sharp edge and pretty must most of my Meg's pads are ruined because the bp cuts into the foam. It also didn't help with the fact that the Meg's pad itself does not have a full velcro backing.

Excellent, you've made my decision for me. LC it is. I like their "grip easy" edge and the reinforced steel bracing. Just wasn't sure if there was any appreciable difference.

Yes, I read your post about the Megs backing plate overheating with the PC on "6". Wasn't entirely sure how much different it would be on a rotary.

Re: Backing plate mfgs? Meguiar's vs Lake Country

I had a problem with Megs plate a few years back with delamination and warping...I then purchased a PC brand plate...a 3M plate and a LC brand plate...and have not had any problems with them....I have the LC 4.75 inch plate and it is very good...I use that one on the rotary...

for rotary I prefer the Megs plate because of the centering button-perfect centering. For PC get the LC plate.

Re: Backing plate mfgs? Meguiar's vs Lake Country

If you're talking for the rotary then the Meg's BP is just fine and I use the 6" plate with the 6.5 CCS pads and love them this way. It seems that you use so little of the pad with the smaller BP's.

For the PC, stay away from the Meg's BP's. Mine was hardly used and just stopped gripping pads.
