7336 accessory ?s

First off, I've looked around for a while and have learned alot of what I need to know. I just need some opinions on what's left to learn. I've decided (after doing a full detail by hand) that there is nothing that can change my mind about getting a ROB. I've decided to get the PC 7336. Here are the questions

1. What size backing plate should I get, 5" or 6"?

2. What size pads should I get, 6" or 6.5"?

3. What is the correct pairing of both 1 and 2? (I've looked but am still confused)

4. I know that I need to try out different pads in order to find the brand I will like the best. How should I purchase different brands of pads in order to try out and find my favorite?

5. Should I consider getting bonnets or just stick with MF towels to remove products after buffing?

Opinions. You know what they say...

1 & 2) Some like smaller pads saying that it lets them get more pressure without slowing the rotation (even down to 5-5.5" pads). Some like the Edge system so they don't have to worry with backing plate.

4) If you go with the Edge system you can get a kit from Autogeek that hasthe most common pads. If you go with a backing plate then the world is your oyster.

5) MF's are just as fast if not faster then the time you spend getting a bonnet on.

Alright, thanks. I've looked at the Edge system, but nothing about it jumps out at me. I think I'd rather just stick with the conventional backing plate and pads. That does make sense about the bonnet and the time required to put it on the PC. I'll just keep to my MFs in that case. Now to put the questions I still have

1. What size pads can I use with what size backing plates? (6" with a 5" plate or 6" with a 6" plate are some examples.

2. How many pads should I get at first while testing to see what I prefer?

Sorry for being such a newbie. I guess everyone has to start somewhere, though.

Sorry in that I didn't have time to address all of your questions this morning. You need the backing plate to be smaller than the pad. Typically you will use a 5" BP for a 6.5" pad. This gives you 3/4" buffer zone all around the BP so you don't touch the surface with it. You want the BP 1.5" smaller than whatever pad you use.

You need a medium and light cutting pad and a polishing pad minimum. If you are only doing your vehicles that the paint is in good condition and only needs some minor repair you might be able to get by with only a light cutting pad and a polishing pad.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll end up getting a 5" backing plate and 6.5" pads. I'll probably only buy one of any one brand until I find the brand I like the best. Thanks for the good info
