Festool Rotex - Which backing plate?

Hi. A few months ago, I bought a new Festool Rotex 150 FEQ for a non-detailing project. Since I wanted to use it for detailing too, I bought three of their polishing backing plates. That's the good news...

The bad news is that I just found out that their polishing backing plates are 5" across! Because I've been busy, I never examined them closely. Yesterday, I pulled out a Festool polishing backing plate and plopped it on top of my 7.5" LC VC pad (see pic). So...

What backing plate do you use with your Festool Rotex? Do you have the old or new one Rotex 150? Festool backing plates? Others? What size? If a Festool sanding plate, which one (soft, medium, or hard)?

Thanks for any feedback,

Dan.

p.s., Festool customer service being what it is , they immediately offered to let me return them. But, I still need to get the right backing plate.

Re: Festool Rotex - Which backing plate?

Hey, Dano.
I have the older Rotex with the 5" polishing plate...#485 748 (hard).

My advice would be either to switch to 5.5 - 6" pads or use the 6" sanding plate that came with it...(mine is pretty flexible and may actually work better for detailing).

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks! I like the 7.5" pads, so I think I'll try the soft sanding plate.

Dan.
